Hot scores highlight MJT Edge School Summer Classic at Coyote Creek; Kern and Ion win low overall titles

Another large field of 93 teed it up in Alberta on Canada’s number one-played Junior Tour, the non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, this past week, in the MJT Edge School Summer Classic at Coyote Creek Golf Club in Sundre. This three-day WAGR-ranked event on August 14, 15, and 16 was last major on the MJT Alberta circuit, with titles in six divisions plus major MJT Order of Merit points up for grabs, aimed towards qualification into the season-ending MJT National Championship presented by TaylorMade and adidas Golf at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Arizona this November.

Tournament Sponsor, Edge School, were on site to witness some great performances on the immaculately conditioned Coyote Creek course, in extremely hot weather just like the scoring.  Top finisher scores and winner quotes are detailed below, while results from the TaylorMade Long Drive, PLYR Closest to the Pin, Booster Juice BounceBack Awards and Academy Points, are posted on the MJT website here.  Many players posted personal bests for the week, with Mateo Kern and Tessa Ion, both of Calgary, AB, firing three great rounds to finish at three-under and one-over par respectively, winning Low Overall honours and their division titles in MJT Juvenile Boys and MJT Girls 15-19.  Other division winners were Saylar May of Rocky Mountain House, AB, finishing at four-over in the MJT Girls U15 Division, Erik Petersen of Okotoks, AB, in the MJT Peewee Boys Division, Lucas Sturgeon, all the way from Saskatoon, SK, who finished at a fantastic four-under par in MJT Bantam Boys, and Aidan Flynn of Calgary winning MJT Junior Boys with a great score of even par for the week.
