Sizzling 66 hands MJT-CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Boys trophy to Lambert; five others claim their provincial titles at The Willows

Saskatoon, SK – (June 5, 2016) – Sterling scores in the 60's were recorded despite strong winds which made for tough scoring conditions during the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour's CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Championship presented by Ilta Grain at The Willows Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon, SK, on June 4 and 5, where a packed field of 94 were competing in six divisions as well as the chance to shortlisted to the Srixon International Junior Classic in Australia this October.

A sizzling 66 on day two handed Low Overall status and the MJT-CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Boys Champion's trophy to Jimmy Lambert, 19, of Saskatoon, after he carded as two-day total of 75-66=141. “I never expected to win after my score on round one, but anything can happen!” Hot on his heels in the division was runner-up Michael Valk, 17, of Medicine Hat, AB, who shot 75, 70 (145), and third place finisher was another MJT veteran, Kade Johnson, 17, of Yorkton, SK (74, 72=146).

Another brilliant final round of 68 in MJT Juvenile Boys clinched the division's Champion's title for Bradley Moser, 16, of Saskatoon, after he shot 74, 68 (142). “I was hitting the ball very well both days and had a bogey-free 68 day two,” said Moser who stated that he chose to play this MJT event because 'it’s a very competitive tour which allows us to play the best in Saskatchewan.' Moser is now shortlisted for MJT Team Canada to Australia. Connor Scissons, 16, of Saskatoon, had to settle for the runner-up position scoring 73, 72 (145) and third place in the division went to Tian Rask, 16, of also of Saskatoon (74, 75=149).

Jayden Dudas, 13, of Estevan, SK, triumphed as the MJT-CPGA of Saskatchewan Bantam Boys Champion after firing rock solid rounds of 72, 73 (145) for a two-stroke winning margin over Saskatoon’s Josh Nagy, 14 (78, 69=147). “Probably my iron play and wedges were key.  I stuck a lot of shots tight,” Dudas said, adding that he was a little worried after Josh Nagy shot a 69 on day two. Jace Carlisle, 14, of Estevan, took third spot (74, 77=151).

Making the trip to the tournament worth his while, Luke Quanson, 12, of Edmonton, AB, was victorious as the MJT-CPGA of Saskatchewan Peewee Boys Champion, shooting 77, 78 (155). Following the tournament, Quanson said, “The course was in good shape and really challenging. It feels really nice to win, and I had an awesome time playing!”  Second place in the division went to Parker Layton, 12, of La Ronge, SK, (82, 89=171), and third place went to Cort Tunall, 12, of Kindersley, SK, (88, 85=173).

Chloe Sies, 17, of Melville, SK, won the MJT-CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Girls 15-19 Champion's trophy after firing rounds of 83, 85 (168) for her first MJT victory, and said afterwards, "I feel good.  It’s my first so I’m very excited."  Sies is also now shortlisted for MJT Team Canada to Australia.  Hannah MacNeil, 17, of Shaunavon, SK, came second (91, 80=171), and third place went to Morgan Ferraton, 17, of Moose Jaw, SK.

The MJT Girls U15 Champion was Raylyn Schmidt, 14, of Moose Jaw, who shot 94, 93 (187) and said she felt very proud to win. Second place was claimed by Sarah Grieve, 13, of Saskatoon (97, 98=195), and third place in the division was won by 14-year-old Carey McLean of Deer Valley, SK (104, 104=208).

In addition, a total of 18 prizes were also awarded to winners of the Longball Long Drive, MJT Closest-to-the-Pin and Golf Town Comeback Competitions in the tournament, whose names are all listed on the tournament page on the MJT website.
