The Road to College Golf, run exclusively by PGA Professionals

Record-setting $75,000 in financial assistance provided by Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour in 2019

Vancouver, BC - (October 23, 2019) - The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s number one-played Junior Golf Tour, is pleased to announce that a record amount of over $75,000 in donations, subsidies, scholarships, and international event support has been awarded in 2019, helping to ensure the continued development of junior golf in Canada.

Some of the players in the program who benefitted from funding this season include the recipients of MJT Scholarships, such as Josh Nagy, 18, of Saskatoon, SK, who was awarded a $1,000 MJT Scholarship. “I want to sincerely thank the MJT for this scholarship.  The MJT has helped me develop as a golfer and a person.  It has provided me with so many amazing opportunities, and I look forward to playing more events in the future,” said Nagy. Eric Strick, 17, of Winnipeg, MB, was also a major scholarship recipient, earning the $1,000 Jacob Lugli Memorial Scholarship. For more information on this scholarship, please see here. Over a dozen other MJT members also received scholarship funding out of a record number of applicants this season.

Sharing the $2,000 Dylan Reichelt Memorial Award in British Columbia, for their respective achievements as Junior and Juvenile Boys Order of Merit leaders, are Riley Geiger and Danny Im, both from Langley.

The MJT Order of Merit point leaders in each age division in every region, totaling 42 members, receive a $250 prize voucher to assist with their expenses of attending the MJT Boston Pizza National Championship presented by TaylorMade and adidas Golf at the Reunion Resort in Florida, November 7 to 10, 2019.

The 2019 MJT Players of the Year, based on their outstanding scoring averages in a minimum of six MJT tournament rounds across the country, each receive a $1,500 prize voucher toward expenses of attending the National Championship. The names of the 42 Order of Merit and seven Player of the Year winners were published in an earlier release.

Many MJT players also qualified to attend prestigious tournaments in Canada, the USA and abroad, including the Nordic Junior Team Matches in Sweden, the JNJG International Junior Classic in Australia, the International Junior Masters in New York, MJT National Team Challenge in Ontario, IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships in California, the US Kids and Teen World Championships in North Carolina and the Future Champions Golf World Championship in California. Expenses of attending some of these events were subsidized where possible, with the help of the MJT’s Official International Travel Partner, TuGo.

Finally, the MJT has also distributed funds for junior golf development to academies and junior coaches across Canada via the MJT Academy Points Program; recipients are noted on the MJT website’s Academy Points page.

Annual awards, scholarships and incentives help reward players’ performance and participation throughout each season. The MJT is proud to play a role in developing champions, in golf and in life, with over 80 events across Canada, including Ford Go Golf introductory clinics, the MJT Mini Tour for 6 to 12 year old kids, competitive multi-day tournaments for players up to age 23, international qualifiers and more. MJT alumni include players on the LPGA, PGA, KornFerry, Symetra and other Professional Tours, PGA of Canada Professionals, National and Provincial Amateur and Junior Champions.

The organization is presented nationally by Boston Pizza and supported by valued Premier, Tournament and Product Partners, including Ford of Canada, TuGo, TaylorMade, adidas Canada, Cam Clark Ford, Maui Jim, Zeal Optics, Freedom 55 Financial, Humber College, Bell Aliant, Odlum Brown Ltd., Ilta Grain, Lindsay Kenney LLP, SAIT Trojans, PLYR Golf, Hoselton, Professional Institute of Massage Therapy, Big Max, Booster Juice, Re/Max Blue Chip Realty and Sean Foley Performance.
