Calgarians dominate the podium at MJT Mini Tour’s Blue Devil Golf Club stop

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada's leading junior golf tour, made its second visit of the season to Blue Devil Golf Club in Calgary, AB, for another exciting stop on July 12 for the 2026 MJT Mini Tour schedule.

Against the backdrop of Blue Devil's striking fairways and challenging layout, a great field of talented young golfers aged 12 and under competed across six divisions for custom medals, fabulous prizes, and qualifying spots into MJT Mini Tour Nationals at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Course in British Columbia this August.

Calgarians swept all top spots in each of the six divisions. Calgary's Wyatt Lazic, 12, edged a tightly contested MJT Boys 11-12 division by a single stroke after carding a rock-solid two-over-par 64, highlighted by four birdies and an eagle. Lazic credited both his father and grandfather for helping him throughout the round. "My dad stayed the first 9 holes, which put pressure on me, but helped. Then Grandpa (helped); he has been my caddy/coach for my whole life." Believing he was trailing late in the round, he pushed for one final big moment. "I thought I was behind a competitor, so I was eager to get an eagle until I realized that I was tied (at that point), then I was happy."

Eleven-year-old Audrey Ko of Calgary made five birdies to fire a fantastic 65, earning top honours in the MJT Girls 11-12 division. Ko praised the support of her caddie, saying, "My sister was caddying for me. She was very encouraging to me." Her strategy centred on precision: “I think it really helps to get greens in regulation. The greens are really small, so you have to be accurate.”

Naeem Fazel, 10, of Calgary, matched par with an impressive 62 to capture the MJT Boys 9-10 title. His focus throughout the day was to ‘focus on short game and get the approach shots close,’ and afterward he summed up the experience simply: "It was a great event!"

Calgary's Blake Nguyen, 10, posted a winning score of 74 in the MJT Girls 9-10 division. Nguyen said her father played an important role in the victory by helping her ‘stay relaxed and trust my game.’ She also gave the MJT another glowing review, calling it ‘10/10, as always.’

Eight-year-old Milan Bhamra of Calgary finished atop the MJT Boys 8U division with a score of 77. Bhamra's plan was straightforward: ‘To hit it where I am aiming.’ As he closed out the round, his focus remained equally simple: ‘Hit good shots.’

Eight-year-old Jagger Nguyen of Calgary joined her older sister, Blake, in the winner's circle, after claiming the MJT Girls 8U title with a score of 78. She said her mother helped her ‘stay relaxed and have fun’ throughout the round. Asked about the tournament, Nguyen described it as ‘the funnest with the best pizza!’ in appreciation of both the MJT experience and event sponsor, Panago Pizza.

Top finisher scores and the list of players who have not already qualified are noted below. Full results and winners of the Closest-to-the-Pin competition are posted on the MJT website here.
