3-way tie at 3-under leads to playoff in MJT Mini Tour FCG Worlds Qualifier at GreenTee

Canada’s next wave of junior talent took centre stage at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) Mini Tour FCG Worlds Qualifier at GreenTee Country Club in Langley, BC, on May 3. Nearly 80 golfers aged 12U teed it up in a high-energy competition, all chasing division titles and valuable opportunities on the national and international stage.

With direct qualifying spots into both MJT Mini Tour Nationals in BC and the FCG World Championship in CA, USA (10U), along with shortlisted positions for the Uswing Mojing Junior World Championship (10U),  the stakes were high. Winners were rewarded with Herschel backpacks and custom medals, capping off a standout day for the next generation on Canada’s number one-played junior tour.

Maple Ridge’s Kaiwen Jiang edged out a one-shot victory in the MJT Boys 11–12 division, carding a solid 76 to claim the title. The 12-year-old credited his preparation, saying, “I felt glad since I’ve been practicing every day and I can finally see results,” while also giving the tournament an ‘11/10’ rating and praising the ‘great staff.’

Vancouver’s Luna Zhou delivered an impressive even-par round of 72 to top the MJT Girls 11–12 division. The 11-year-old’s steady performance stood out as one of the strongest scores of the day.

A three-way tie at 3-under-par set the stage for a thrilling playoff in the MJT Boys 9–10 division, where Vancouver’s Allen Kong, 10, ultimately prevailed after three extra holes. Kong secured the win with a clutch birdie finish, topping Edward Yu and Liam Chang after all three posted 69s. “It feels great. The conditions were good,” said Kong, who rated the experience ‘5 stars!’

Nine-year-old Yoyo Zhang of Richmond put together a standout round of 70 to win the MJT Girls 9–10 division at 2-under-par, highlighted by three birdies and an eagle. “It feels amazing to win this tournament at GreenTee,” she said, adding she was ‘a bit nervous’ coming down the stretch.

Seven-year-old Sawyer Morrow from Vancouver led the way in the MJT Boys 8U division with an impressive 4-under-par 68, fueled by three birdies and an eagle. Morrow captured the title ahead of a tightly contested field, sharing that it felt “amazing!” and describing the day’s conditions as ‘fun, fast, and hot.’

In the MJT Girls 8U division, Anna Song, 8, of Vancouver carded a 76 to earn the win. Song kept her feedback simple, saying, “I liked the course,” and adding, “I would rate this event a 10 out of 10. They did an excellent job.”

Top finisher scores and the list of qualified players are noted below. Full results, as well as winners of the Closest-to-the-Pin and Long Drive competitions are posted on the MJT website here.
