Chen’s ace highlights successful season-opening MJT adidas Golf series in Vancouver

It was a successful 2026 season-opener for Canada’s leading junior golf tour at University Golf Club in Vancouver, BC, from March 20–22, as rain and water-soaked greens gave way to clearing skies and sunshine for the three day, WAGR-ranked MJT adidas Series. The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour had 98 athletes compete in the heavily wait-listed stop, competing in six divisions for titles, several major rankings including WAGR and AJGA Performance Based Entry (PBE) Stars, and bonus MJT Order of Merit points towards National Championship qualification. As the first Elite Series event of the MJT season and the first of six National stops on the adidas Golf circuit, the tournament set the tone for a highly competitive start to 2026.

Players also had the opportunity to qualify for Team BC selection for the 2026 Junior America’s Cup, and Troy Gadalla, Jeevyn Lotay, and Ryan LePrieur now lead the early standings.

A highlight of the opening round was when Ziping Chen, 12, of Surrey, BC, delivered a memorable moment with a hole-in-one on the Par 3 fourth hole. Chen would go on to finish seventh (74-74-77=225) in a standout performance against a highly competitive Bantam Boys field. Taking top honours in the Bantam Boys division was Steven (Jingcheng) Li, 14, of Richmond, BC, who fired rounds of 72, 73, and a division-low 69 to claim the title at 214.

Other standout performances leading to division wins were turned in by Troy Gadalla, 17, of Vancouver, BC, in MJT Junior Boys (64-70-70=204), Charlotte Tam, 15, of Burnaby, BC, in MJT Girls 15-19 (72-67-67=206), Jeevyn Lotay, 16, from Burnaby, BC, in MJT Juvenile Boys (72-65-69=206), Tiffany Rao, 12, from Vancouver, BC (71-72-75=218), and Theo Zhou, 12, from North Vancouver, BC, in MJT Peewee Boys (72- 77-72=221).
