MJT Mini Tour lights up Swift Current with action-packed day at Elmwood
Canada’s leading junior golf circuit, the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), brought the energy to Elmwood Golf and Country Club in Swift Current, SK, over the May long weekend, with a huge field of nearly 140 young players turning up to compete in either the MJT Mini Tour for 12U players or the MJT Junior Tour for 19U. Detailed below are results from the MJT Mini Tour event, which ran on May 17 and had contenders battling across five divisions for spots in the highly anticipated MJT Mini Tour National Championship in British Columbia this August.
Strong performances, despite cold, tough weather conditions, resulted in titles being awarded to Declan Kozakavich, 11, of Saskatoon, SK, in MJT Boys 11-12 (81), Lila Skeates, 11, of Calgary, AB, in MJT Girls 11-12 (96), Jackson Orr, 10, from Corman Park, SK, in MJT Boys 9-10 (77), Mae McTavish, 9, from Canora, SK, in MJT Girls 9-10 (87), and Jameson Fox, 8, of Herbert, SK, in MJT Boys 8U (123).

Declan Kozakavich, 11, of Saskatoon, SK, kept things light and focused at Elmwood, carding an 81 with two birdies to top the MJT Boys 11-12 division by two strokes. With a season goal to ‘play the best I can and have fun,’ Kozakavich is proving that a great attitude and solid play go hand in hand.

Eleven-year-old Lila Skeates of Calgary, AB, brought the energy and enthusiasm to Elmwood, shooting 96 as the sole competitor in the MJT Girls 11-12 division — making her own performance the one to beat. Rating the event ‘11/10 (because of Jeff, MJT Saskatchewan Tournament Director!),’ Skeates called Elmwood a ‘special and fun place.’

Jackson Orr, a 10-year-old from Corman Park, SK, lit up the course with three birdies and an eagle on his way to a stellar 77 to win the MJT Boys 9-10 division. “10/10!! I love this event and I love Elmwood,” he shared. “Thank you for the work – I love this tour SO MUCH!” With both passion and precision, Orr delivered a standout performance.

Nine-year-old Mae McTavish from Canora, SK, kept her winning streak alive with a second straight MJT victory, carding an 87 with three birdies in the MJT Girls 9-10 division. Her take on the event? “Obviously, 10/10. Same as all the other MJT events!” Mae’s steady game and love for the tour are making waves this season.

Eight-year-old Jameson Fox from Herbert, SK, came out to compete solo in the MJT Boys 8U division, carding a 123. His off-season prep? “Hitting balls in my garage.” With a season goal to break 110, Fox is putting in the work and should achieve his goal with ease.
