140 juniors turn out for MJT Ford-sponsored tournament and clinic in successful end to BC season at Mayfair Lakes
Canada’s leading junior golf circuit, the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), closed out another successful British Columbia season with a total of 140 youth taking part in either a free Ford Junior Golf Clinic on October 3 or a two-day MJT Ford Series tournament for elite players on October 4 and 5, all held at Mayfair Lakes Golf Course in Richmond, BC. The Cam Clark Ford Go Golf! Junior Clinic provided an introduction to the game at no charge to enthusiastic kids aged 5–12 in the community, rounding out the non-profit MJT’s mandate to develop junior golf in Canada. Results of the two-day MJT Ford Series, the final regular season tournament for 2025, are detailed below, where players were competing for titles in six divisions plus the chance to win a brand-new Ford Escape in a Ford Hole-in-One Contest.
Set on a course famed for water guarding 13 of 18 holes and coastal breezes off the river delta, Mayfair Lakes demanded precision and nerve from tee to green. In tightly contested fields, a flurry of low scores set the tone, with Boys Low Overall honours from the furthest tees played going to Ilia Khademi, 16, of West Vancouver, BC, winner of MJT Juvenile Boys (71-70=141), and Girls Low Overall Honours to YanLing (Elaine) Liu, 17, of Vancouver, BC, winner of MJT Girls 15-19 (68-70=138).
A deep slate of exceptional performances across the divisions were capped off by wins deservedly going to Anson Zhao, 17, from Victoria, BC, in MJT Junior Boys (76-73=149), Avery McAbee, 12, from Mission, BC, in MJT Girls U15 (76-71=147), Jack Guo, 13, from West Vancouver, BC, in MJT Bantam Boys (70-68=138), and James C.R. Qiu, 13, from Surrey, BC, in MJT Peewee Boys (68-75=143).
