Hole-in-one and playoff cap off successful MJT Team TaylorMade Championship East at Bond Head

 

A hole-in-one and a playoff highlighted the successful MJT Team TaylorMade Championship (East) at The Club at Bond Head, a highly sought-after event on the non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour schedule, which ran this past weekend in Beeton, Ontario. A full field of young golfers were treated to fabulous TaylorMade tee gifts and prizes, as well as a special Skills Challenge, at this final major event on the MJT Ontario schedule for 2023.  

Players were competing on a very well-manicured and demanding Bond Head course for titles and bonus MJT Order of Merit points in six divisions, looking to secure an invitation to the MJT National Championship presented by TaylorMade and adidas Golf at The Wigwam Golf Resort in Arizona this November. 

Low overall honours for Boys and Girls respectively went to Jaiden Brown, 16, of Newcastle, ON, who won on the first playoff hole to defend his MJT Juvenile Boys title, and Nobelle Park, 13, of Oakville, ON, who plays up a division and continues to dominate in MJT Girls 15-19.  Other highlights included 11-year-old Dustin Zhao of Maple, ON, stealing the show with an ace on the tough third hole, and Ben De Castro of Toronto, ON, winning in MJT Junior Boys for the fourth time this season.  Kaprice Park, 13, of Oakville, ON, won her third MJT Girls U15 title, Michael Jeffrey, 12, of Whitby, ON, broke through to win in MJT Peewee Boys and Haden Wang, 14, of Richmond Hill, ON, won his first start of 2023 in the MJT Bantam Boys Division.

Winning her third event of the season in dominating fashion was Kaprice Park, 13, of Oakville, ON, who posted solid scores of 75-76 in the MJT U15 Girls Division.  “It feels good to have won this event,” said Park.  “My mindset was positive and encouraging.”

Nobelle Park, 13, of Oakville, ON, posted the low round of two under par on day one for a dominating lead in the MJT Girls 15-19 Division, ensuring victory and Low Overall honours among the Girls.  “It feels nice to win,” said Park.  “I was just trying to make pars coming down the stretch.”

Breaking through for his first win this season was Michael Jeffery, 12, of Whitby, ON, who battled hard on the second day to fend off challengers and win the MJT Peewee Boys Division title.  “It feels amazing to win because it makes me feel that my hard work is paying off,” said Jeffrey.  “I just tried to finish strong.”

Haden Wang, 14, of Richmond Hill, ON, posted two great rounds to win the MJT Bantam Boys title in a close race.  “Amazing! Just amazing,” said Wang.  “I worked very hard these past two weeks preparing for two tournaments in a row and I guess it paid off.”

MJT veteran, Jaiden Brown, 16, of Newcastle, ON, defended his title at this event by winning in a playoff on the first hole to claim the MJT Juvenile Boys Division title and Low Overall honours.  “It feels great to win and successfully defend last year’s win at Bond Head,” said Brown.  “Down the stretch, I tried to focus on the target and hit good shots.”

Ben De Castro, 17, of Toronto, ON, kept up his winning ways with another MJT Junior Boys Division title, his fourth of the year.  “It feels good knowing I wasn’t physically in good shape,” said De Castro, who edged out a one stroke victory.  “My mindset was to be aggressive because I didn’t think I’d won.”
