Successful finish to MJT Humber College PGM Classic at Hidden Lake

Burlington, ON. (May 14, 2018) – Playing through cool, but calm weather, 84 competitors successfully navigated Hidden Lake Golf Club in Burlington, ON, this past Mother’s Day weekend in the two-day MJT Humber College PGM Classic on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour. They were competing for titles in seven age divisions on Canada’s number-one played Junior Golf Tour as well as for short-list spots in the 2018 IMG Academy Junior World Championships in San Diego, CA, this July.

MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16:  Nicholas Lin, 16, of Toronto, ON shot the low rounds for the tournament, (72, 74 - 146), on his way to capturing the MJT Juvenile Boys title. “I’m really excited,” said Lin, “I played two excellent rounds and it’s nice to see the hard work during the winter pay off.” Lin beat Mississauga, ON native, Thomas Latter, 14, by nine shots.

MJT Junior Boys 17-18: Ethan Siebert, 17, of Beamsville, ON bested Luca Carestia, 17, of Ancaster, ON, by four shots to claim the MJT Junior Boys title with a two day total of 152 (72, 80). “It feels great to get my first MJT win,” said Siebert. “I knew I had some room to work with so my thoughts were to just make par.”

MJT Bantam Boys 13-14: The tightly contested MJT Bantam Boys division was won by Ethan Irvine, 14, of Ancaster, ON, after he fired rounds of 73, 79 (152). Irvine was excited about how he played over the two days but more importantly, he said, “It feels awesome to come out with the win on Mother’s Day.” Runner-up honours went to Owen Kim, 13, of Oakville, ON, who was only one shot off the pace.

MJT Peewee Boys: With rounds of 78,73 (151), Alex Long, 11, of Toronto, ON, was able to come back after trailing after round one to claim the MJT Peewee Boys division. First round leader, Andre Zhu, 11, of Richmond Hill, ON, had to settle for second place as his 76 on Sunday put him two shots behind at 153.

MJT Girls U15: Katie Cranston, 13, of Oakville, ON, shot rounds of 86, 81 (167) to edge out Bo Brown, 14, of Mississauga, ON, and Kelly Zhao, 11, of North York, ON for the top spot in the MJT U15 Girls division. Cranston was quoted saying “It’s a great start to the 2018 season! I feel good because there was such good competition.”

MJT Girls 15-18: Kristen Giles, 18 of Georgetown, ON, fired rounds of 82 & 74 (156) to win the MJT Girls 15-18 division. Giles narrowly edged out Emily Ward, 17, of Niagara Fall, ON who finished one shot back after leading Giles by five heading into Sunday. “I knew I needed to salvage par,” said Giles. “After an errant drive, I did a fantastic job giving myself a shot to save par, which I did.”
