Aussies rule at MJT International Players Championship presented by Miura

Jasper, AB – (August 16, 2018) – Corey Lamb of Branxton, NSW, Australia, got off to an impressive start which included three birdies and an eagle in his first five holes to take a strangle hold of first place in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s International Players Championship (IPC) presented by Miura at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course in Jasper, Alberta, August 13, 14 and 15.

Lamb, 16, and Ryan Hodgins, 16, of Medicine Hat, AB, Canada, started their third round in the Junior Boys division tied for second behind Hunter Thomson, 14, of Calgary, AB.  Overall there were seven golfers within three shots of first place, leading to an exciting final round. It was Lamb who dialed-in, making a total of six birdies and one eagle on his way to a six-under, 65 for a three-under-par total of 210 (73, 72, 65), good enough for a three-shot victory over Hodgins to claim Low Overall and the IPC Junior Boys Champion title.

“The highlight of the tournament was making an eagle on the fourth hole of the final round. I had just come off two birdies and this eagle provided some much needed distance between myself and Ryan,” said Lamb. “I feel on top of the world after this win.” Hodgins finished runner-up at 213 (72, 73, 68) and Thomson, who was playing up a division, had to settle for third with scores of 72, 71, 74 (217).

Annika Boyd, 16, from Noraville, NSW, Australia, successfully defended her country’s title as IPC Girls Champion with their third win in as many years. Boyd (72, 74, 76=222) cruised to a six-shot victory over her nearest competitor and teammate, Yerin Kim, 16, of Lidcombe, NSW, Australia (81, 74, 73=228). The two battled each other until the last putt to continue Australia’s dominance in the IPC Girls division. “I feel so excited and happy to win my first international tournament,” said Boyd. “My tournament got off to a great start after I made birdie on the first hole. It gave me the confidence and momentum I needed to play well the rest of the way.” Third place went to Stephanie Chelack, 16, of Calgary, who carded 79-81-80 (240).

The IPC Bantam Boys Champion was Cooper Humphreys, 13, of Kelowna, BC, Canada, who played sensational golf from 6000 yards and finished the tournament at three-over par, 216 (73,72,71), winning the title by 3 shots over Cole Bergheim, 14 of Red Deer, AB, Canada, who finished at 219 (72, 76, 71). Third place in the division was claimed by Tyson Dyck, 14, of Abbotsford, BC, Canada, after he shot 71-75-78 (224).

Calgarian Jacob Magee, 21, was solid from tee to green all week to claim the IPC Collegiate Champion title over Dakota Smith, 22, of Edmonton, AB, Canada. Magee finished with a three-day total of 219 (77, 75, 67), while Smith was seven shots back at 226 (74, 79, 73). After the round, Magee was quoted saying, “I am truly honoured. I’ve been wanting to win a MJT event for years.” Third place in the division went to Brayden Bauman, 19, of Grande Prairie, AB, Canada (78-75-78=231).
