Dunphy low overall in MJT Humber College PGM Classic at Hidden Lake

Burlington, ON. (May 15, 2017) – Surviving wind gusts and hail, players successfully completed play in the two-day Humber College PGM Classic at Hidden Lake Golf Club in Burlington, ON, this past weekend, where they were competing for titles in seven age divisions on Canada’s number-one played Junior Golf Tour.

Nick Trichilo, Head Coach of the Humber College’s Humber Hawks Golf Team, was on site both days and sponsored a Closest to the Pin contest for boys and girls. In addition to the division champions featured below, overall event highlights are posted on the MJT website here, showing winners of the Miura ‘Respect the Game’ Award, PLYR Long Drive, PLYR Closest-to-the-Pin and Golf Town Performance Awards, as well as those who qualified for shortlisted age-specific spots into the IMG Academy Junior Worlds Championship in San Diego, California, this July (Lauren Zaretsky, Abby White, Brendan Dunphy, Matthew Peesker and Owen Kim.) Finalists will be announced once qualifying finishes across the country.

MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16:  Brendan Dunphy, 16, of Whitby, ON shot the low round for the field on day two, on the way to a 147 total (77,70), and won low overall off the 6734 modified yardage as well as the MJT Juvenile Boys title. “I have friends who play on the tour so I knew that it would be good competition for me. I also play MJT because of the great courses that are played and how well the tournaments are run.”

MJT Junior Boys 17-18: Davey Morton, 17 of Woodstock, ON cruised to a seven shot victory in the MJT Junior Boys Division with rounds of 76,81 = 157, enough to best second place finisher Xavier Ayora, 17 of Kitchener, ON.

MJT Bantam Boys 13-14: Matthew Peesker, 13, Toronto ON fired rounds of 80, 85 = 165 to win the MJT Bantam Boys Hoselton trophy, saying, “I have recently started playing tournament golf, and I am super excited my first win came on Mother’s Day. Our Moms support us a lot, so this win is dedicated to my Mom.”

MJT Peewee Boys: With rounds of 74,72 = 146, Owen Kim, 12, of Oakville, ON, posted the lowest two-day total for the entire tournament, albeit off a 6070-modified yardage. “I think my driving put me in good position off the tee, to get me good looks at the hole,” said Kim. “I found the golf course in good shape, even though at one point it was hailing, and it was very windy.”

MJT Collegiate Men 19-23: Kyle Meaney, 19, of London, ON, shot 74, 81 = 156 over the two days in the new Collegiate Division on the MJT.

MJT Girls U15: Lauren Zaretsky, 13 of Thornhill, ON, shot rounds of 80,86=166, just enough to edge out Madelin Boyd, 13, of Oshawa, ON, for the top spot in the MJT U15 Girls.

MJT Girls 15-18: Natasha Stasiuk, 18 of Oakville, ON, fired 85, 98 = 183 to win the Hoselton trophy for MJT Girls 15-18. She said afterwards, “I feel pretty amazing! This is the first MJT event that I have won.” She added that the best thing about her game on the weekend was, ‘winning the longest drive and getting a birdie on the par 5 seventh hole.’
