Press Release

July 4-5, 2015
Windsor, ON

MJT Tournament Director Summary of the event at Roseland:

All players were very happy to finally receive ideal weather conditions for golf, with clear skies and minimal wind allowing for a very enjoyable weekend at Roseland Golf and Curling Club in Windsor, ON.

Local 12 year old golf prodigy and Team Essex-Kent member Shawn Sehra would capture everyone's attention firing an opening round 6-under par 66!  He would follow that up with a 4-under 68 to easily win the MJT Boys Peewee division.

The most excitement would be found in the MJT Boys Juvenile division with several players in contention heading into Sunday's final round.  Opening round leader Curtis Hughes could not maintain form and would fall out of contention with several players shooting very good scores to pass him.  Brett Harrison had a breakthrough round firing a 74 but this would not be enough to overcome a disappointing opening day.  Mitchell Demelo would capture second in the Juvenile division with the low round on Sunday at 73.  Coming out on top would be Marcus Slipchuk with consistent rounds of 75 and 74 to claim his first MJT Juvenile title.  Rounding out the top three would be Jack Ferguson with rounds of 76 and 75.

Strong and consistent play would allow Nicholas Mihalo to capture the MJT Junior Boys division.  Nicholas Cook took second, three shots behind and Daniel Klinck, another shot back, took third.

Austin Friesen would take a four shot lead into the final round of the MJT Bantam Boys division with an opening round of 79.  Dante Burrato made a strong charge on Sunday firing the low Bantam round at 77 but this was not enough to overcome the deficit as Austin fired another 79 to finish with a two shot victory.  Jackson Tellerico took third.

In the MJT Girls 15-19 division, Megan Schauer opened with a 78 to take a commanding four shot lead into Sunday's final.  However, she would struggle on Sunday allowing Team Essex-Kent member Jasmine Ly to capture the title with a final round of 78.  Melanie Burgess would take the third place prize.

In the MJT Girls U15 division, back-to-back rounds of 83 would see another Team Essex-Kent member, Shannon Coffey, capture the title a solid six strokes ahead of runner-up Hannah Meloche.  Rachel Cote finished with the third place prize.
