Truman Tai ends MJT career on a high with 8-under victory at Osprey Valley

Alton, ON – (August 19, 2013) – The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) players were welcomed to the MJT Collegiate Bound Series at Osprey Valley Golf Club in Alton, ON, this past weekend, where a solid field of junior golfers competed for titles in three divisions as well as an exemption into the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) Notre Dame University in Indiana this October.  “Two perfect days, you could not ask for anything better,” said MJT Tournament Director and PGA of Canada Professional, Dave Smallwood. “The course was in fantastic shape and the facility is outstanding.”

For over seven years, Truman Tai, 19, of Markham, ON, has competed on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour and racked up multiple victories, so it was fitting that he ended his junior career on a high, firing back to back 68’s to win Low Overall and the MJT Junior Boys 17-19 gold medal, together with the qualifying position in the FCWT Notre Dame University event later this year. “I putted great both days and made very few mistakes,” said Tai of his eight-under-par total score of 136.  “It feels good to win on the MJT.  The MJT always hosts such great tournaments and it’s great to play against such good juniors.”  Finishing in a tie for second in the division at 146 total score was David French, 18, of Sarnia, ON, who carded 74-72 and Rhys Davies, 19, of Waterloo, ON, shot 73-73.
