Foley, Kozack, Johnson and Hill crowned MJT– CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Division Champions

Saskatoon, SK – (July 27, 2013) –The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) two-day tournament on July 25th and 26th at the Willows Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon, SK, the MJT-CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Championship, was a huge success, although strange weather throughout the event was the story.  “It went from sunny, to cold, windy and rain, then clear skies and back to wonderful,” said MJT Tournament Director and PGA of Canada Professional, Jeff Chambers. The tournament is a venture between the MJT, the Canadian Professional Golfers’ Association of Saskatchewan, and Golf Saskatchewan, where all MJT events are ranked and count towards the Golf Saskatchewan Order of Merit (OOM), culminating with the MJT Golf Saskatchewan OOM Championship at Elk Ridge Golf Resort in Waskesiu this August.

MJT Junior Boys 17-19 Champion was 17-year old Tyrin Foley of Bengough, SK, who carded 67-71 (138) to claim Low Overall honours and secure a qualifying spot in the Texas Junior Golf Tour’s Holiday Classic at Barton Creek in Austin, Texas, this December.  “The course conditions were perfect – a 10,” said Foley. “It feels awesome to win.” Finishing tied for second at 141 but winning via MJT count back was Kyle Wiebe, 17, of Madison, SK, who shot 72-69 and Justin Wood, 18, of Unity, SK, who shot 71-70 to finish third.

Noah Kozack, 14, of Regina, SK, took home the MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 Champion’s title by shooting 75-67 (142).  “Zack (Hurd) had me a little worried coming down the stretch,” said Kozack, adding, “but I dropped putts all day on the second day and it feels good to win.”  Zach Hurd, 16, of Prince Albert, SK, and Carson Harcourt, 15, of Kipling, SK, shot identical scores of 71-75 (146) to tie for second place in the division.

Brooke Hill, 17, of Regina, shot 82-77 (159) to take home top spot in the MJT Girls Division.  Hill credited good putting and staying calm as her keys for winning this week.  She added that ‘she knew that it was close, and it feels great to win!’  Finishing in a second place tie was Brooke Hobson, 14, of Prince Albert, who shot 81-79 (160) and Kayla Sawchuk, 14, also of Prince Albert, who carded 79-81 (160).

In the MJT Bantam Boys Division, Kade Johnson, 14, of Yorkton, SK, shot 78-72 (150) to claim the title in a tight race over three others. Johnson said he ‘hit the ball very solidly and hit a lot of clutch shots’ en route to his first win on the 2013 MJT circuit.  Finishing two back in a three-way tie for second were Roman Timmerman, 14, of Saskatoon, (77-75), Kristian Houk, 14, of North Battleford, SK, (75-77) and Kyle Schneider, 14, of Prince Albert, (74-78).

Divisional winners of the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Kayla Sawchuk, Erik Ehrmantraut of Casa Rio, Diehl Normand of Meadow Lake and Jackson Hill of Humboldt.  Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin Competition winners were Kayla Sawchuk, Andrew Campbell of Saskatoon, Cole Hobson of Prince Albert, and Jessy-Lee Lacher of Swift Current.
