11-UNDER PAR VICTORY FOR MJT-BC PGA JUNIOR CHAMPION

CLOVERDALE, BC – A major event on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), endorsed by the British Columbia Professional Golfers’ Association (BC PGA), played out Tuesday through Thursday, August 1st to 3rd, on Northview Golf Course in Cloverdale, BC. The 54-hole tournament, the MJT-BC PGA Junior Championship, is part of a series of national events pioneered by the MJT in conjunction with the provincial CPGA zones. A full field of 120 junior golfers from the USA and all over British Columbia took part, with a cut to 60 players after 36 holes.

On day one, a course record was achieved by Dong Su, 16, of Richmond, BC, and Mayfair Lakes Golf Club, who blistered the Canal course with a 9-under-par 63. This incredible score by the longtime MJT member, who has also competed in European Tour events, set him up for ultimate victory both overall and in the Boys 14-16 division, after he closed with 70, 72 for a 205 total score. "The first round, I just tried to two putt on the 18th hole, from off the green to shoot 64, but I made the eagle putt from that far," he said. "This is the first event that I played this summer in Canada - mostly I play lots of tournaments in U.S. – and I feel really happy about winning. I was not going to be mad if I lost because this is one of the major events for the MJT and I have some big events coming up this summer, so winning this title can help me to play well in the rest of my tournaments.”

Runner-up to Su was Bryan Lichimo, 14, of North Vancouver and Seymour Creek Golf Club, who fired 71-71-76 (219). Two Americans rounded out the top four players in the division: Matt Rawitzer, 15, of Bellingham, WA, shot 69-77-73 (219) to place third, while Jacob Webb, 16, of Issaquah, WA, shot 69-75-76 (220) to come fourth.
