MJT Team Canada enjoys world-class experience in Australia

Four junior golfers representing the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) recently returned from Australia, where they enjoyed a world-class experience of international competition in the 2026 Jack Newton International Junior Classic (JNJC), held October 6–9 at Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club in New South Wales.

Brady Douglas of Kamloops, BC, Colin MacCormac of Stratford, PE, Jace Olson of Humboldt, SK, and Solomon Tong of Heritage Pointe, AB, represented Canada in the international championship, each having earned their place through their performances on the MJT during the 2026 season.
Accompanying the team was PGA Professional and MJT Assistant Tournament Director Gary Byrne, who supported the players throughout their time in Australia.

The trip marked the MJT’s 15th appearance at the event. The four-day championship brought together junior golfers from host nation Australia and international delegations from Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Hawaii, New Caledonia, China, and Samoa. This was an exceptional opportunity to compete against unfamiliar opponents and experience a different tournament environment.

Solomon Tong recorded the top Canadian finish, followed by Jace Olson, Colin MacCormac, and Brady Douglas. Tong improved as the championship progressed, earning a place in the afternoon draw for the final round.

For MacCormac, the opportunity to compete against international players was among the most valuable aspects of the experience. “The event was very fun but also really challenging,” said MacCormac. “There was a lot of top talent from a bunch of different countries which was a very good learning experience I will never forget.”

For MJT Team Captain, Byrne, this was an important part of the trip. “The boys represented Canada and the MJT exceptionally well, both on and off the golf course,” he said. “They really embraced the experience and made the most of every opportunity to meet fellow golfers from around the world. That's such an important part of international competition. It was a truly memorable week.”

The MJT's participation in the Jack Newton International Junior Classic is part of its ongoing commitment to providing competitive pathways beyond Canada. Through established international relationships, the Tour creates opportunities for junior golfers to compete against players from other countries, gain experience in different tournament environments, and further their development.

Congratulations to all four players on proudly representing the MJT and Canada at the 2026 Jack Newton International Junior Classic.
