4 standouts make MJT Team Canada for Sergio García Junior Championship in Spain
Vancouver, BC - (September 17, 2026) – Four junior golfers from four Canadian provinces are preparing to take their games to Spain this October after earning the opportunity to represent the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) and Canada at the 2026 Sergio García Junior Championship.
Darren Hesom of Morden, MB, Justin Mrazek of Brooks, AB, Preston Proudfoot of Squamish, BC, and Leo Savio of Welland, ON, have qualified to represent MJT Team Canada at the prestigious international event, taking place October 2–4 at Mediterráneo Golf Club in Borriol, Castellón, Spain.
Home course of major champion and Ryder Cup star Sergio García, Mediterráneo Golf Club will welcome leading junior golfers from around the world for three days of international competition in the World Amateur Golf Ranking® (WAGR®) event.
The MJT once again received sanction to qualify four athletes for the championship, extending the competitive pathway beyond Canada for players on the non-profit Tour. This year’s contingent reaches across the country, with British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario each represented.
For Savio, Mrazek, Hesom and Proudfoot, the opportunity adds an entirely different test to their 2026 seasons. A new country, unfamiliar course and international field will challenge the Canadians to test their games against an international field on European soil.

International opportunities remain an important part of the MJT player pathway, giving qualifying athletes the chance to take the experience gained through competition across Canada onto international stages.
