Impressive showing by MJT Team Canada’s Krahn at Sergio Garcia Junior Championship in Spain
Vancouver, BC – (October 8, 2025) – Players from Canada’s leading junior golf circuit, the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), recently returned from a successful trip to the 2025 Sergio Garcia Junior Championship, held October 3–5 at Mediterráneo Golf Club in Borriol, Castellón, Spain, the home course of PGA TOUR major winner and Ryder Cup star, Sergio Garcia.
Recognized by the World Amateur Golf Ranking® (WAGR®), the championship gathered top juniors from more than 11 countries for a highly competitive tournament on a world stage for the young athletes.
The MJT received sanction to qualify four athletes to represent MJT Team Canada at this year’s event. Austin Krahn from Christina Lake, BC, led the way in outstanding fashion, finishing low Canadian and 4th out of a field of 60 players with excellent rounds of 71–71–72 (214). Along with fellow MJT teammates, Rainer Bulau from Aurora, ON (82–77–85), Dante Gamble from Duck Lake, SK (82–81–83), and Sam Cook from Calgary, AB (88–84–76), the four athletes handled the new country and new turf with professionalism, while also enjoying a cultural experience of a lifetime in a beautiful part of Spain.
“This week in Spain was an extremely fun experience. It was great to get to know the boys and play golf,” said Austin Krahn. “I hit it well off the tee, and on my approached, but my putting and chipping struggled a little bit. One of the biggest things about playing golf around the world is getting used to different grasses and learning how to best play out of it.”
Reflecting on his -2 finish, Krahn added, “The entire experience was extremely cool, especially getting to play Sergio Garcia's home course and see him there for two of the days and to watch him hit balls in person.” “I look forward to seeing Canada's presence grow in this great event.”
“The Sergio Garcia Junior Championship is an incredible international platform and experience for our athletes,” said Trent Matson, MJT National Director of Operations. “We’re proud of how our players represented themselves and Canada, and grateful to Mediterráneo Golf Club and Héctor Del Castillo for the opportunity.”
