MJT Team Canada has standout week down under at 2025 Jack Newton International Junior Classic
Vancouver, BC – (October 5, 2025) – Players from Canada’s number-one played junior golf tour, the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), proudly represented their country at Australia’s prestigious Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG) International Junior Classic from September 30 to October 3. Held on the scenic Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club layout in the Hunter Valley, NSW, the 2025 edition once again drew a deep international field and delivered championship-level theatre.
In the highly competitive Individual Overall Boys Championship, Queensland’s Harrison Gomez claimed the title with rounds of 72–70–66–66 for a total score of fourteen-under 274.
Low Canadian overall was DJ Crowe from Armstrong, BC, who led MJT Team Canada on the Boys Leaderboard with a total score of 302 (75–74–78–75), finishing T17th in the Boys 17 age division and T40th overall. In the Boys 16-year-old division, teammates Trent Clark from Vineland, ON, placed 18th at 303 (71–75–81–76), while Jett Metaxas from Stoney Creek, ON, was one stroke back, T19, at 304 (74–77–79–74). In the Boys 15-year-old division, Lucas Vizzutti from Powell River, BC, finished 12th at 310 (82–77–72–79).
MJT Team Canada, making its 14th appearance at the event, was led on-site by PGA of Canada Professional and MJT Tournament Director, Ryan Kingston, from Fredericton, NB. Selected through strong play on the MJT this season, the Canadian contingent gained invaluable experience at one of the Southern Hemisphere’s marquee junior championships. The JNJG International welcomes 500+ players in different age divisions from 8 through 17 from around the globe, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada, the United States, New Caledonia, and China, and features both team and individual competitions that showcase top-level junior talent on a truly global stage.
“Competing at an international event like the Jack Newton International is transformative for our young athletes, and it was a privilege to be a part of this lifetime experience with them,” said MJT’s Ryan Kingston following the event, noting the group’s professionalism, resilience in tough conditions, and the friendships forged across borders.
The MJT’s participation in global championships is a cornerstone of its mission to develop champions, in golf and in life, by providing elite competition, cultural exchange, and college-pathway exposure.
