Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour awards over $48,000 to junior golf in 2015

Vancouver, BC - (October 20, 2015) - The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) is pleased to announce that over $48,000 has been distributed to young golfers in international event funding, scholarships and subsidies/donations in 2015, and that the program continues as the number-one played junior tour in Canada with the most players and largest field sizes for competitive multi-day tournaments in the country.

Some of the players on the program who benefitted from scholarships, funding and awards this season include $1,000 MJT Cleveland Golf Canada Scholarship Winner Keenan Flemming of Sechelt, BC, and Runner-up Brynn Todd of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Additional scholarship monies were also awarded to Aaron Ogrodnick of The Pas, MB, Daniel Ivanouski of Denfield, ON, Carson Harcourt of Kipling, SK, Jeff Masse of Lethbridge, AB, Scott Kerr of Vancouver, BC, Matthew Tse of Calgary, AB, and David Stark of Surrey, BC.

The MJT also allocated over $10,000 for the provincial MJT Cleveland Golf Order of Merit division winners to assist with expenses of attending the MJT Boston Pizza National Tour Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf at The Reunion Golf Resort in Kissimmee, FLA, November 6th to 8th. The provincial winners are:

Many players qualified via the MJT to attend a number of prestigious tournaments including the Srixon International Junior Classic (Australia); International Junior Masters (IJM); MJT International Team Challenge (ITC), MJT International Players Championship (IPC), IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championship (San Diego); North American Junior Amateur (NAJA); San Diego Junior Amateur and IMG Academy Junior World Championship - Florida Challenge; and the US Kids and Teen World Golf Championships. International Event funding with the help of Official International Events Partner, Tugo, assisted players at several of these events.

Regarding the 2015 MJT Cleveland Golf Players of the Year, six juniors were recognized based on their scoring averages in a required minimum number of MJT tournaments in their respective division across the country:

MJT Girls U15 Player of the Year: Emily Zhu of Richmond Hill, ON

MJT Girls 15-19 Player of the Year: Vivian Lee of New Westminster, BC (Hong Kong Golf Association)

MJT Boys Peewee Player of the Year: Shawn Sehra of Windsor, ON

MJT Bantam Boys Player of the Year: Braeden Cooper of Vernon, BC

MJT Juvenile Boys Player of the Year: Roman Timmerman of Saskatoon, SK

MJT Junior Boys Player of the Year: Calvin Ross of Fredericton, NB.
