Canada's #1 Junior Golf Tour

The Road to College Golf, run exclusively by PGA Professionals

MJT proud to support alumnus & LPGA player, SooBin Kim

LPGA player another beneficiary of MJT

Vancouver, BC – (August 22, 2015) –The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s only national junior tour run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the “Road to College Golf” for aspiring golfers, is pleased to support MJT alumnus SooBin Kim, 22, formerly of Port Coquitlam, BC, via the MJT Touring Professional Development Fund.

Currently competing on the LPGA Tour, SooBin Kim played on the MJT for six years, was Canadian Junior Girls Champion in 2008, and was a multiple winner on the MJT where she holds the MJT course record for girls at Quilchena Golf Club in Richmond, BC.  She had a great collegiate career at Washington State where she tied for the most wins by a Huskie with four, and was the all-time leader in scoring average and the No. 1 ranked collegiate player following the 2014 fall season. Kim had her career best LPGA finish of 13th in the Portland Classic this month.

Professional Golf Tours such as the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, Nationwide Tour and PGA Tour Canada are extremely difficult to qualify for and take substantial financial resources for preparation and qualifying costs. Once on Tour, it requires substantial monies to pay for travel, accommodation and tournament entry fees. Previous recipients of MJT support include Devin Carrey, Mitch Gillis and Nick Taylor.  All were members of the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour.

About the MJT: The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour presented by Boston Pizza is Canada¹s number-one played Junior Golf Tour as well as the only national junior tour run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the ‘Road to College Golf’ in Canada. The organization is generously supported by Boston Pizza and Premier Partners Ford of Canada, Mr. Lube, Cleveland Golf, Srixon, Gatorade and Tugo, in addition to valued Tournament and Product Partners. The MJT hosts more than 70 events across Canada, including free Ford Go Golf Junior Clinics, the MJT Mini Tour for 7-12 year olds, and multi-day events for competitive players which also qualify juniors for international competitions. The program offers annual awards, scholarships, and frequent player incentives to help reward player's performance and participation throughout each season. MJT alumni include many Professional Tour players and PGA of Canada Professionals, as well as Canadian Amateur, National and Provincial Junior Champions. The MJT aims to develop champions, in golf and in life, promoting the game from grassroots through to provincial, national, university and professional level.
