MJT TEAM CANADA REPEATS AS CHAMPIONS OF SCOTTISH MATCHES

ST. ANDREWS, U.K.: The Scotland Kingdom of Fife Junior Team Matches concluded August 22nd in St. Andrews, U.K, where eight junior golfers on MJT Team Canada competed against the Fife Team in best ball and singles matches.

MJT Team Canada, which was selected from qualifiers held across the country earlier this season by the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada's only national junior tour run by Golf Professionals, trounced their Scottish counterparts, winning the matches 8 points to 4 points.

The team included Jordan Arndt, 15, of Furdale, Saskatchewan, Harrison Clegg, 15, of Langley, British Columbia, Craig Dale, 17, of East Mountain, Nova Scotia, Jesse Gibson, 16, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Brett Greiner, 16, of Calgary, Alberta, Steve Minion, 16, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Shyamal Nagindas, 14, of Aurora, Ontario, and Steven Scheidt, 17, of Calgary, Alberta.

The better ball matches were played on Leven Links Golf Course, a superb old links-style course and home to the oldest stroke play event in the world. Team captain and MJT Tournament Director, Jeff Chambers, CPGA, said, "It was great weather and the birdies were flying all over the course. Our lead group of Jesse Gibson and Brett Greiner had nine birdies between them just to force a tie. Craig Dale and Steve Scheidt had eight birdies in the match and it still fell short of their stiff competition. Jordan Arndt and Harrison Clegg put on a late charge and finished with four birdies in the last six holes to win their match. Shyamal Nagindas and Steve Minion didn't throw enough birdies at their competition and were outgunned, being beaten on hole 16."
