MJT'S NAGINDAS EDGED FOR CKG TOUR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

TORONTO, ON: After qualifying on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Shyamal Nagindas, 14, of Aurora, Ontario, and Neal Ryan, 13, of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, recently competed in the 2008 CKG Tour World Championship, which ran August 7th to 10th at Wachesaw Plantation East Golf Club near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA.

Competing in the boys 13-14 division, the juniors endured temperatures reaching over 95 degrees with a humidity index of 115 degrees. Nagindas, who plays out of Meadowbrook Golf and Country Club in Gormley, ended up in second place with scores of 72-74-72 (218) while Ryan, of Antigonish Golf Club, placed 23rd with scores of 97-87-89 (273).

Nagindas's opening round 72 put him four shots behind day one leader, Zachary Martin of Pinehurst, North Carolina, who shot a 68. In round two, Nagindas bogeyed the final three holes as he could not get the putts to fall, but in round three an even par 72 placed him just one shot behind eventual winner, Martin, and earned him the second place trophy based on retrogression after Victor Wiggins of North Carolina, ended up shooting 73-71-74 (218). Fourth place went to Philip Geerts from Rome, Italy.

On day four Nagindas was selected as one of the twelve players to play in a Ryder-Cup format match against a North American team. Together with teammate Geerts they secured their points and the International team went on to win 8.5 to 3.5 points.
