The Road to College Golf, run exclusively by PGA Professionals

Series of Major Qualifiers in Ontario Gets Underway May 27-28

PETERSBURG, ON- The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada's only national junior tour run exclusively by Canadian PGA Professionals and one of Canada's most successful junior golf programs, is boosting its program in Ontario this year.
Under the leadership of MJT Tournament Director Dave Smallwood, Head Golf Professional at Galt Country Club in Cambridge, every one of the Tour stops this year will be a major qualifier for exclusive international junior golf events.
Young golfers will be able to qualify for the 54th East Aurora International Junior Masters in East Aurora, New York, USA, the Scotland Kingdom of Fife Team Matches in St. Andrews, Scotland, UK, the 5th annual International Junior Golf Invitational in Cuernavaca, Mexico, the CAN-USA Junior Team Matches in Tempe, Arizona, USA, and the North American Junior Golf Championship in Texas, USA.
Golf courses hosting these qualifiers include Rebel Creek Golf Club in Petersburg on May 27th and 28th, Foxwood Golf Club in Baden on June 10th and 11th, Crosswinds Golf Club in Milton on July 10th and 11th, Forest City National Golf Club in London on July 30th and 31st, and Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge on August 14th, 15th and 16th.
Participants play in four divisions and receive great value for their entry fee, including two rounds of golf, a long drive and closest-to-the-pin competition, tee gift, pizza from national sponsor Boston Pizza, trophies and many prizes. Players who join as Tour members are eligible for other MJT benefits, including annual national awards such as the $1,000 Cleveland Golf Canada Scholarship Award won by Todd Hutcheson of Ingersoll in 2004.
In addition, members earn order of merit points to qualify for the MJT Boston Pizza National Tour Championship, scheduled for August 28th and 29th at Nicklaus North and Whistler Golf Clubs in the home of the 2010 Winter Olympics, Whistler, B.C.
"We are geared up for a good time this season," says Smallwood, who encourages players of all abilities to enter and test their skills in a fun, competitive format. "It's great to have these opportunities for Ontario's juniors and anyone who would like to play should call me at Galt Country Club or visit the MJT website."
