CANADIAN JUNIOR TEAM MEMBER FIRES EIGHT UNDER PAR TO WIN MJT FRASER VALLEY JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - The Boston Pizza-sponsored Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) stopped this past weekend in Abbotsford for the MJT Fraser Valley Championship at Ledgeview Golf Club, where a full field of juniors from Whistler to Washington State competed over the two days.

Ledgeview?s hilly terrain and fast greens proved no match for Canadian Junior Team member Adam Hadwin, 17, from Abbotsford, who fired a pair of sizzling 66?s to post an 8-under-par total score and claim low overall for the tournament.

?My ball striking was tremendous, I hit a lot of greens each day,? said Hadwin. ?It was a good field this week, with a lot of players that could go low. To come out on top feels good.?

Hadwin won the Boys 17 and up division title by 10 strokes over runner-up Lucas Bogdan, 17, of Abbotsford, who shot great rounds of 70-72 (142). Third place in the division went to Richard Choi, 18, also of Abbotsford, with scores of 70-76 (146).

In the Boys 14-16 division, Brett Webster, 16, of Abbotsford, shot 72-71 (143) to win his first division title on the MJT. ?I just tried to hit every green to ensure pars,? said Webster. ?When the final putt dropped I knew I had won. It means a lot to me - gives me confidence - as it is my first win.?

Four strokes back of Webster was Joon Heui Lee, 15, of Langley, who shot 74-73 (147). Mitchell Maier, 16, also of Langley, posted rounds of 74-75 (149) to take third place in the division.

Another first time MJT winner was Andy Yang, 12, of Port Moody, who took the Boys 13 and under division title with solid rounds of 74-74 (148). ?My game plan was doing a par play ? if the hole was a par four, my plan was two (strokes) on and then to two putt,? said Yang. ?I think I won because of my putting.?

Bryan Lichimo, 13, of North Vancouver placed second place in the division with scores of 78-74 (152), and Matthew Hamilton, 13, of West Vancouver, placed third (80-76=156).

Ahnna Kim, 14, of South Surrey, closed with an outstanding one-over-par 72 to win the Girls division by seven strokes over her sister, Nari Kim, 16. ?I just really wanted to win my first event of the year, so I didn?t care who else was playing,? said Ahnna, who shot 80-72. ?My first round motivated me to play well on my second round ? my confidence was really high.?

Third place among the girls went to Chelsea Kim, 15, of Port Coquitlam, who shot 87-82 (169).

Division winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Andy Yang, Kevin Lee, 16 , of Langley, Jeremy Paradis, 19, of Langley and Hayley Geremia, 15, of Port Moody.

The Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin Competition division winners were Adam Svensson, 11, of Surrey, Mark McKenzie, 15, of Garibaldi Highlands, Lucas Bogdan, and Young Soo (Emily) Kim, 14, of Port Coquitlam.

The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, now in its 7th season, is Canada?s only major junior tour run exclusively by Canadian PGA Professionals and endorsed by PGA Tour veterans Dave Barr and Ray Stewart.
