Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour
Qualifies Player For Event in New York

LANGLEY, B.C. ? Talented Nick Taylor, 17, of Abbotsford, BC, will be heading to the United States to take part in a noted junior tournament after shooting the low overall score in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour?s Lindsay Kenney Classic at The Redwoods Golf Course in Langley.

Taylor won the Boys 17 and up division at last weekend?s MJT event to earn a berth in the 53rd International Junior Masters, to be held June 27 - July 1 in East Aurora, N.Y. Currently enjoying an outstanding season with wins in two MJT events as well as in the RCGA?s Future Links Pacific Championship in late March, Taylor posted rounds of 74-70 to seal the spot four strokes ahead of runner-up Jessie Singh, 17, of Surrey, BC (73-75).

Other top finishers in the Boys 17 and up division included Danny Lee Jun, 18, of Langley, BC, who placed third with scores of 74-75, while Devin Carrey, 17, of South Surrey, BC, shot 77-73 and tied for fourth with Kevin Stinson, 19, of Mission, BC (72-78). A hole in one was also recorded by 17-year-old Andrew Mouangsouvanh of Abbotsford, BC, who went on to shoot 87-84 and place 14th in the division.

Kyle Dodman, 14, of Abbotsford, BC, maintained his first round lead in the Boys 14-16 division, holding off hard charges from Adam Karim, 16, of Coquitlam, BC, and Morgan Leigh, 14, of Surrey, BC, to win his first tournament on the MJT. Dodman overcame the pressure of the gallery around the 18th hole, wedging the ball up to within a few feet of the pin and making the birdie putt to edge the competition by one stroke.

?All I thought about was taking my time and concentrating on my pre-shot routine,? said Dodman, who has played on the MJT for the past two years. ?I knew I had won when everyone cheered real loud. I had a feeling that I was close. This win is my first on the Tour and it feels great.?

In a three-way tie for second place in the division were Karim (81-74), Leigh (80-75) and Cory Mehl, 15, of Seattle, Washington State (78-77).

In the Boys 13 and under division, Brian Cho, 12, of Pitt Meadows, BC, shot 78-73 to tie for first place with day one leader Adam Svensson, 11, of Surrey, BC.

?I didn?t give up when I was two strokes back of Adam with three holes left,? said Cho, who has racked up four wins in as many starts on the MJT this season. Svensson shared the lead with excellent scores of 76-75.

A great closing round of 72 vaulted Reid Martin, 13, of Mukilteo, Washington State, to place third in the division one stroke back of Cho and Svensson.

Sue Kim, 14, of Langley, BC, enjoyed her home course advantage and shot 75-73 to win the Girls division by five strokes over Chelsea Kim, 15, of Port Coquitlam, BC. ?I am a member of Redwoods so played here a lot before the tournament and practiced hard shots,? said Kim. ?Chelsea was one stroke behind me after the first round and I knew I had won after the 17th hole today when Chelsea told me her score.?

Division winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Reid Martin in Boys 13 and under, Morgan Leigh in Boys 14-16, Steve Solosth, of Mission, BC, in Boys 17 and up, and Emily Kim of Port Coquitlam, BC, in Girls.

The Sundog Closest-to-the-Pin Competition winners were Adam Svensson, Harrison Taylor of Langley, BC, Hansol Koh of New Westminster, BC, and Sue Kim.

The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, now in its 7th season, is presented by Boston Pizza and is Canada?s only major junior tour run exclusively by Canadian PGA Professionals and endorsed by PGA Tour veterans Dave Barr and Ray Stewart.
