Coastal winds launch MJT Atlantic Canada Mini Tour opener in Chester

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s #1-played junior golf tour, launched its Atlantic Canada season at Chester Golf Club in Chester, NS, with back-to-back events on May 9–10. A combined field of 80 players showed up in force, with 12U athletes kicking things off on the Mini Tour on May 9, followed by the Junior Tour for players 19U competing across both days, all battling through sunny but cold and windy conditions.

The MJT Mini Tour athletes competed for division titles in six age categories, as well as qualifying spots into the MJT Mini Tour Nationals at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Club in BC, the FCG World Golf Championship in Palm Desert, CA, and the Uswing Mojing Junior World Championship (U10), setting the tone for an exciting year ahead on the Mini Tour.

Local golfer Donovan Davis of Chester Basin, NS, claimed the MJT Boys 11–12 title with a solid round of 77. The 11-year-old was all smiles after the win, sharing, “It feels really good,” and rating the event a perfect “10/10,” adding that “MJT is a really good tournament.”

Sophie Landry of Dieppe, NB, topped the MJT Girls 11–12 division with a score of 93, as the 12-year-old battled through challenging conditions to secure the victory. “Amazing! My hard work through the winter paid off!” she said, adding a “10/10” rating and noting she was “happy with the new swag.”

Nine-year-old Callum Burge of Amherst, NS, delivered a strong performance to win the MJT Boys 9–10 division with a 74. “I feel great, I love competing against people and I hope to win more,” he said, noting the elements played a factor with “very wet, cold, and windy” conditions throughout the day.

Adelyn Harris (10) of Wolfville, NS, secured the MJT Girls 9–10 division title with a score of 92, navigating tough coastal conditions to edge a tightly contested field. “It feels great, I had a good birdie and some pars,” she said, adding that “the course conditions were great.”

Dartmouth’s Jaxon Brown captured the MJT Boys 8U division with a score of 78, showing confidence beyond his years. The 8-year-old summed it up with “Amazing!” and was thinking, “I am made for this,” when asked about his mindset down the stretch.

In the MJT Girls 8U division, Bedford’s Bree Wang carded a 99, rounding out a solid day for the youngest divisions on the Mini Tour. “First 18 holes I have ever played,” she said, adding she was “tired, but excited!”
