Brisk conditions and early qualifiers headline MJT Mini Tour season opener at Merry-Hill
Canada’s #1-played junior golf tour, the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), kicked off its 2026 Ontario Mini Tour season at Merry-Hill Golf Club in Breslau, ON, on May 2, where a determined field of 12U athletes teed it up in brisk spring conditions at the MJT Mini Tour Junior Worlds Qualifier.
Competing across six age divisions, players battled not only for the first titles of the season, but for early qualifying spots into three major championships; the Uswing Mojing Junior World Championship (U10), the MJT Mini Tour Nationals at Tsawwassen Springs in BC (August 30–31), and the FCG World Championship in Palm Desert, CA.
Jaxon Mitchell (11) of Burlington, ON, delivered a standout performance in the MJT Boys 11–12 division, firing a three-under-par 68 to take the title. Mitchell carded five birdies on the day, separating himself by two strokes atop the leaderboard. “It feels so great, I’m speechless. It’s nice to see the hard work pay off,” he said. “It was the perfect competition.”
Burlington’s Matea Boras, age 11, claimed the MJT Girls 11–12 division with a score of 80, showcasing steady play in challenging spring conditions. “It feels very good and makes me very happy. I’m also proud of myself,” she shared. “I love this tour!!”
Nine-year-old Logan Metzen of Etobicoke, ON, captured the MJT Boys 9–10 division title with a round of 75. “It feels nice to win in my division at the MJT Tournament,” he said. “I would rate this MJT event 10/10 because I can’t rate it more than ten.”
Lanai Park (10) of Oakville, ON, put together an impressive one-over-par round of 72 to win the MJT Girls 9–10 division, highlighted by three birdies. “Infinity out of 10, keep up the good work,” she said when asked about the event.
