Bain fires 4-under 68 to lead MJT Mini Tour at Meadowlands Golf Club

Canada’s number one-played junior golf tour, the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), brought its Mini Tour to Meadowlands Golf Club at Sylvan Lake in Sylvan Lake, AB, on June 14, where a field of nearly 50 talented young golfers aged 12 and under competed in the latest stop on the national circuit.

Competing across six divisions, athletes battled for titles, custom medals, premier prizes, and qualifying opportunities into MJT Mini Tour Nationals at Tsawwassen Springs in British Columbia later this summer. The event showcased the skill, determination, and sportsmanship of Alberta’s next generation of golfers as they tested their games on one of Central Alberta’s most popular junior golf venues.

Calgary's Jack Schab edged the field by a single stroke to capture the MJT Boys 11-12 title with a round of 85. The 12-year-old kept his game plan simple throughout the day, focusing on ‘making putts and hitting greens.’ Schab also gave high praise to the tournament experience, noting a ‘10/10’ and a ‘beautiful course.’

Eleven-year-old Morgan Tucnik of Calgary delivered one of the day's standout performances, carding a 70 featuring five birdies to claim the MJT Girls 11-12 crown by a single stroke. Following her victory, Tucnik dedicated the win to a special supporter, saying, “This one is for you, Grandpa!” She also reflected on the positive atmosphere of the event, noting, ‘”It was a great event. My group was really fun and enjoyable to be around.”

Jordy Bain of Edmonton fired a sensational four-under-par 68 to win the MJT Boys 9-10 division by one stroke. The nine-year-old recorded five birdies and two eagles in a remarkable round. When asked if Bain had anyone behind his success, he credited his family, saying, “My mom, who is my amazing caddie, and my dad and sister too, who all play and practice with me.” He also praised the event experience, adding, “It was 10/10, the course was in great shape! Looking forward to the next one.”

Calgary's Blake Nguyen captured the MJT Girls 9-10 title with a score of 81 highlighted by four birdies. The 10-year-old credited her father for helping her stay focused throughout the round, explaining, “My dad reminded me to be mentally strong.” Nguyen also shared her appreciation for the tour, saying, “As always, MJT is top notch.”

Eight-year-old Milan Bhamra of Calgary topped the Boys 8U division after carding a 78 that included three birdies. Bhamra thanked his caddie for helping him along the way, specifically crediting them ‘for cleaning my clubs.’ When asked about his experience on the MJT, his review was enthusiastic: ‘10/10 again and again and again.’

Jagger Nguyen of Calgary earned the Girls 8U title with a score of 91. The eight-year-old thanked her mother for helping her stay relaxed throughout the day, saying, “My mom helped me keep cool and have fun.” Nguyen also shared what she enjoys most about competing on the MJT: “The course was fun to play, the welcome packages are the best, and I love looking forward to the Panago Pizza at the end of the round. Thank you MJT for putting together such fun events.”
