Stacked field of 12U golfers takes on MJT’s Mini Tour stop at Musqueam

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada's leading junior golf tour, welcomed a stacked field of talented golfers aged 12 and under to the scenic, tree-lined fairways of Musqueam Golf Course in Vancouver, BC, on July 4, for another exciting stop on the 2026 MJT Mini Tour series.

Competing across six divisions, young athletes battled for division titles, custom medals, fantastic prizes, and qualifying spots into MJT Mini Tour Nationals at nearby Tsawwassen Springs next month, showcasing their skills on one of the Lower Mainland's most popular junior golf venues.

Top spot in the MJT Boys 11-12 division was won by Richmond's Gavin Ziyuan Wang, 11, who fired a 65. Wang thanked his grandfather for playing an important role in his success, stating, "My grandpa was supportive." He also had high praise for the tournament experience, adding, "This event was awesome, I would recommend it."

White Rock's Stella Sun, 11, carded an impressive 64 to top the MJT Girls 11-12 division. Sun pointed to ‘Daniel (my Coach), my parents, and me’ as the team behind her victory, and gave the tournament glowing praise afterward, rating her experience ‘six out of five.’

Ten-year-old Jasper Wang of West Vancouver claimed the MJT Boys 9-10 title with a round of 71. His game plan was ‘to trust my swing and good short game,’ and he summed up the experience succinctly: “5/5, the weather was good, MJT always set up suitable tee boxes and the organizers are helpful."

Lorena Wang, 10, of West Vancouver, posted a winning score of 68 to capture the MJT Girls 9-10 division title. Wang offered a heartfelt credit for her success to her parents, adding a special birthday message for her father: "My mom, and dad whose birthday is today! Thank you, daddy, for helping me find my ball on his birthday. He should be relaxing." Throughout the round, she kept things simple, saying, "I was just trying my best. I didn't think about winning."

Seven-year-old Sawyer Morrow of Vancouver continued his successful winning streak on the MJT after firing the lowest score of 64 in the MJT Boys 8U division. Morrow said ‘my Coach and my dad, aka Caddy’ were instrumental in the victory, while his focus over the closing holes was to ‘just hit the centre of the green and make pars.’

The MJT Girls 8U title went to Vancouver's Anna Song, 8, after she shot a solid 70. Her strategy was straightforward: ‘Aiming as my dad told me to.’ Looking back on the round, Song added, "I was just thinking about the basic things my coaches and family told me to do."

Top finisher scores and the list of players who have not already qualified are noted below. Full results, as well as winners of the Closest-to-the-Pin and Long Drive competitions, are posted on the MJT website here.

The next MJT Mini Tour event in the province is the MJT Mini Tour at Poppy Estate Golf Course in Langley on July 22. For more information, or to view the upcoming British Columbia MJT Mini Tour schedule, please visit www.maplejt.com.
