Canada's #1 Junior Golf Tour

 

A solid field of 64 four young golfers aged 12 and under teed it up on the picturesque Golden Eagle Golf Club on June 7 as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada's number one-played junior golf tour, continued its Mini Tour season in British Columbia. Set against a stunning backdrop of mountain views and natural wetlands, the Pitt Meadows layout provided an ideal stage for the province's next generation of golfers to showcase their skills.
 

Competing across six divisions, athletes battled for custom medals, exceptional prizing, and valuable qualifying opportunities into the MJT Mini Tour Nationals, set for later this summer at Tsawwassen Springs in Tsawwassen, BC. 

Dylan Murphy of Nanaimo, BC, delivered one of the top performances of the day, carding a two-under-par 68 to win the MJT Boys 11-12 division title. The 12-year-old recorded six birdies during his impressive round and credited a straightforward game plan for his success: "Hit greens and make putts." Following his victory, Murphy expressed his appreciation to the tournament organizers, saying, "Thank you for this wonderful event."

A countback was needed to determine the MJT Girls 11-12 winner after Constanza Ordaz Romero of Burnaby, BC, and Crystal Yang of Vancouver, BC, both tied for the lead with scores of 76. Ordaz Romero secured the title thanks to a strong finish, highlighted by an impressive 35 on the back nine. The 12-year-old attributed her success to hard work and a positive mindset, saying, "Practice makes progress. That's the only thing that helped me win. My mentality, practice, smiling, and having fun." Following her victory, Ordaz Romero also praised the tour, adding, "MJT is amazing. Just keep on going, a great job."
 

Competing in the MJT Boys 9-10 division, nine-year-old Jaden Quan of Burnaby, BC, posted a winning score of 70. As the tournament reached its closing stages, Quan's focus remained on a single objective: "Stay focused." He also gave the event glowing reviews, rating it ‘5 Stars, 10/10.’
 

Richmond's Yoyo Zhang continued her outstanding season with a one-under-par 69 to earn top honours in the MJT Girls 9-10 division. The nine-year-old's round featured five birdies and showcased the composure that has become her trademark. "Stay humble and calm even when I make a mistake," she shared, stating the strategy she relied on throughout the day. Zhang also exprressed her enthusiasm for competing on the tour, saying, "I love playing MJT, 10/10."
 

Seven-year-old Sawyer Morrow of Vancouver, BC, claimed the MJT Boys 8U division title by three strokes after carding a 73 at Golden Eagle Golf Club. Morrow's approach centered on accuracy rather than power, explaining that his plan for the round was ‘not to overswing and be accurate.’ After the event, he complimented the tournament's ‘great setup.’
 

In the MJT Girls 8U division, Anna Song of Vancouver, BC, shot 79 to secure victory. The eight-year-old credited her father for playing a key role in her success, saying, "My dad helped me win, especially because he was very focused." Song also gave the event a perfect ‘10/10’ rating.

The next MJT Mini Tour event in the province is the special two-day MJT Harry White Little Masters at Tsawwassen Springs, on June 28-29 in Tsawwassen, where the eligible boy and girl ages 11-12 will win exemptions into the MJT’s Junior Tour National Championship in Florida.
