Canada's #1 Junior Golf Tour

 

Ontario’s record-setting MJT season reached its finish line in Toronto on September 26-27, as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour teed it up at Don Valley Golf Course for the province’s final Junior Tour event of 2026.
 

Set in the heart of Toronto, the city’s oldest Municipal Golf Course provided a demanding stage for a strong field of talented golfers aged 19 and under, who competed across six divisions for the final Ontario titles of the season, crystal trophies, ZEAL Optics sunglasses, and valuable Order of Merit points.
 

The tournament shared the weekend with MJT’s Alberta finale, bringing two outstanding provincial seasons to a close as the 2026 MJT schedule moves into its final stretch.
 

In Ontario, the year has been one for the record books. More events, wait-listed fields, and an increasingly connected junior golf community have driven tremendous momentum throughout the province. With 2027 Early Bird Memberships set to go on sale in December, the next chapter is already shaping up to be even more competitive.

Toronto’s Tyler Shum saved his best golf for the final round to claim the MJT Junior Boys title. The 17-year-old followed an opening 78 with an even-par 72, improving by six shots to finish at 150 for the weekend. Shum carded six birdies over 36 holes, including back-to-back birdies to close his first round, a moment he said helped him ‘carry some momentum into day two.’ Reflecting on Don Valley, Shum added, “It was a really fun track.”

Sarah Xing of Richmond Hill put together two strong rounds to secure the MJT Girls 15–19 title, posting scores of 73 and 72 for a 145 total. The 14-year-old carded seven birdies over 36 holes while following a simple approach: “I tried to stay patient and calm and play the best I could.” One of the weekend’s highlights came on the 13th hole, where Xing said, “I hit a 7-iron to about an inch,” setting up a tap-in birdie.

Consistency carried 16-year-old Jack Thomson of Clarksburg to the MJT Juvenile Boys title, as rounds of 73 and 74 gave him a two-day total of 147. Thomson approached Don Valley with a disciplined game plan: “Play it safe. Don’t take any aggressive shots. Play for pars.” He also had high praise for the tournament, adding, “It was run well. I love MJT events!”

Back-to-back rounds of 76 earned Burlington’s Mirela Boras the MJT Girls U15 title with a 152 total. The 14-year-old kept her approach simple throughout the weekend: “My strategy was to have fun and play it safe. I didn’t want to play too hard to result in the next shot being even harder.” Boras closed the event with an enthusiastic review: “Thank you so much MJT for this tournament! The staff were great and I had so much fun.”

Ivan Xue took control of the MJT Bantam Boys division with an opening-round 71 and followed with a 74 to secure the title by two strokes at 145. The 13-year-old Toronto golfer recorded eight birdies over the two rounds and pointed to his iron play as a key strength entering the tournament. “I was hitting them really solid and straight,” said Xue, who also credited the MJT staff for being ‘very helpful’ throughout the weekend, particularly with rulings.

 

Carey Zhao of Ottawa improved by five strokes on day two to finish at 161 and take the Peewee Boys title. The 12-year-old entered the weekend with the straightforward goal to ‘play my best,’ and delivered a fitting finish to both the tournament and his year, saying, “I ended my golf season with a birdie.”
