Canada's #1 Junior Golf Tour

 

Summer may be winding down, but the race for the top of the Ontario standings on Canada’s #1 Junior Golf Tour is not quite finished. More than 70 junior golfers filled a heavily waitlisted field at FireRock Golf Club in Komoka for the MJT Order of Merit Series event on September 5–6, marking the final summer event for the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour before many student-athletes head back to school.

 

The two-day competition brought the field to a Tom McBroom-designed championship layout where natural grasses, dramatic landforms, rugged bunkering and the Oxbow River Valley create a course built around risk and reward. 

 

With only two Ontario Junior Tour events remaining after FireRock, every point carried added weight in the season-long 2026 MJT Order of Merit standings, as players continued to battle for position heading into the final stretch of the provincial schedule. Custom crystal trophies and VOVEX Golf Rangefinders were also on the line as the Ontario season moved another step closer to its conclusion.

Brantford’s Ethan Lange secured the MJT Junior Boys title by two strokes after rounds of 73 and 76 for a 149 total. The 17-year-old kept his approach straightforward throughout the weekend: “Play simple golf. Safe targets, not forcing scores.” Lange also pointed to an unlikely moment on the third hole as a key shot, making a 35-foot bogey putt after putting one out of bounds.

Seventeen-year-old Sadie Westfall of Oshawa collected the MJT Girls 15–19 title and Girls Low Overall honours with rounds of 75 and 80 for a two-day total of 155. Westfall carded four birdies across the 36-hole event and focused on the mental side of her game, aiming ‘to try and stay confident in my game and not let myself get in my own head.’ Her review of the weekend was equally clear: “10/10, love you MJT.”

 

A four-hole playoff was needed to name Dutton’s Andrew Sudicky the MJT Juvenile Boys winner and Boys Low Overall honouree after he and Clark Powley (16) of London finished regulation tied for the lead at 148. Sudicky, 16, made one of the biggest moves of the final round, improving by six shots with a 71 after opening with 77 and recording six birdies over the tournament. “I prioritized finding fairways and staying away from trouble,” he said. Sudicky gave the event a ‘10/10,’ adding, “The tournament was organized from start to finish. Also, the tee gift was great and there was plenty of CWENCH to drink.”

Markham’s Jingyan Meng emerged from a playoff to win the MJT Girls U15 division after tying for the lead with Brinley Lau (12) of Toronto at 162 through 36 holes. The 12-year-old Meng posted matching rounds of 81 before prevailing in extra holes and credited her family for their support: “My parents helped me a lot after the tournament.” She had even bigger praise for the experience, rating it ‘1000/100’ and adding, “I loved this tournament and all the staff.”

Jackson Stevenson stole the early advantage in the MJT Bantam Boys division with an even-par 72 in round one and never relinquished the top spot, following with a 76 to finish at 148. The 14-year-old from London poured in seven birdies over 36 holes while sticking to a simple plan: “My strategy was to hit fairways and play solid golf from there.” Stevenson summed up his FireRock experience in four words: “This event is amazing.”

 

A six-shot final-round improvement propelled Lewis Jiang to the MJT Peewee Boys title, as the 12-year-old from Richmond Hill followed an opening 79 with a 73 to finish at 152. Jiang recorded five birdies over two days and identified his approach play as the strongest part of his game. His standout came on the eighth-hole closest-to-the-pin challenge, where he faced a 141-yard downhill shot into a headwind: “I used a hybrid and hit it perfectly and it dropped right next to the pin.”
