Extra holes decide two titles as record-setting Manitoba season culminates at MJT adidas Golf Series in Carman

A season defined by unprecedented participation, waitlisted fields and an exceptional depth of talent in Manitoba came to a fitting conclusion August 17–19, as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) arrived at Carman Golf Club for the three-day MJT adidas Golf Series event.

The WAGR-ranked 54-hole Major carried significance on several fronts, marking both the final Manitoba stop of the 2026 MJT season and the sixth and final event in this year’s national adidas Golf Series. More than 80 athletes aged 19 and under competed across six divisions, with the field cut to approximately 60 per cent of each age division following the second round. Those advancing competed for custom MJT medals and adidas Golf shoes, with AJGA Performance Based Entry (PBE) Stars and bonus MJT Order of Merit points towards qualification for the MJT National Championship adding to the stakes.

The growth seen throughout 2026 has set a new benchmark for the MJT in Manitoba and provides a strong foundation heading into next season. With 2027 Early Bird Membership opening this December, preparations are already underway to build on that momentum with an even bigger year ahead.

Hudson Hunnie of Winnipeg, MB, claimed the MJT Junior Boys title following three days of steady play and a second-round surge, posting scores of 74, 70 and 76 for a 220 total and two-stroke margin of victory. The 17-year-old carded eight birdies over three days, crediting ‘accuracy off the tee and making good club selections’ as the strongest parts of his game. His plan was equally measured: “Simply stay patient and eliminate course-management errors.” Hunnie added, “It was a great event, supported by a great community in Carman.”

Winnipeg’s Payton Chapman saved her best golf for the final day of the MJT Girls 15–19 division, improving from rounds of 86 and 85 to fire a closing 77 and finish at 248. The 15-year-old punctuated her final tournament with back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18, calling it “a good way to finish the last tournament.” Chapman’s approach throughout the week was focused on 'keeping it in play and staying focused and in the moment.'

A playoff decided the MJT Juvenile Boys title, where 16-year-old Brenin Devlin of East St. Paul, MB, stole the win on the first extra hole after he and Morden’s Darren Hesom finished 54 holes tied at 229. Devlin posted consistent rounds of 77, 77 and 75, recording six birdies and an eagle along the way. “I felt really confident with my approach shots,” he said, pointing to ‘great ball striking throughout each day heading to an amazing finish.’

Playing in front of her hometown crowd, Carman’s Makenzie Bartlett made an impressive turnaround in the MJT Girls U15 division, shaving eight strokes off her opening 87 before posting back-to-back rounds of 79 to finish at 245. The 14-year-old singled out 'a good up and down on #4 for birdie' as a difference-making moment and rated the three-day event a '10/10, great experience.'

The MJT Bantam Boys division required a spectacular three-way playoff, after St. Pierre Jolys’ Zack Cahill, Winnipeg’s James Smith, and Patrick Kehler each completed 54 holes at 239. Cahill, just 11 years old, secured the win with a par on the first extra hole, navigating a challenging situation when it mattered most. “The playoff hole had a tough lie, but still managed to hit the green,” he said. Cahill summed up the three days simply: “Great event and a great course.”

Eleven-year-old Jack Holmes of Winnipeg, MB, won the MJT Peewee Boys division on the strength of a final-round 77, following scores of 78 and 80 to finish at 235. Holmes kept his approach straightforward, ‘hit greens and make pars’, and pointed to a clutch 20-foot par putt on the 14th as his biggest shot of the tournament.

Top finisher scores and the list of qualified players are noted below. Results from the Bomber Long Drive, PLYR Closest to the Pin, Booster Juice BounceBack Awards and Academy Points can be found here.
