Tor Hill delivers playoff finish at MJT Ford Series major qualifier in Regina
The 2026 MJT Ford Series got underway on June 27-28 at Tor Hill Golf Course in Regina, SK, as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada's leading and most-played junior golf circuit, hosted the first of seven national Ford Series events this season.
A stacked field of 100 junior golfers from across Western Canada battled through a rain delay in the opening round before returning to cool, wet conditions on day two to compete across six divisions for custom maple leaf crystal trophies, adidas Golf prizes, and the chance to win a new Ford Bronco from Bennett Dunlop Ford with a hole-in-one. There were also coveted shortlisted qualifying spots up for grabs in the Sergio Garcia Junior Championship in Spain this October, as well as direct spots into the MJT National Tour Challenge in Ontario this September.
In the MJT Junior Boys division, 16-year-old Kolton Spenst of Saskatoon, SK, finished atop the leaderboard with rounds of 79 and 75 for a 154 total. Reflecting on his journey, Spenst said, "Three years ago, I came in dead last, but with support and my work ethic, I was able to improve to my ability now," acknowledging his coach Cody Callaway and his parents for helping him. He also described the MJT as ‘a phenomenal tour that is accessible for any junior golfer to help improve their competitive play.’
Sixteen-year-old Yuna Lee of Regina, SK, led the MJT Girls 15-19 division after recording five birdies over two rounds en route to a 157 total. Lee credited ‘my parents. They always try to push and support me’ and described the tournament as ‘10/10, always fun and organized. Very nice staff.’
Jace Olson, 14, of Humboldt, SK, emerged victorious in the MJT Juvenile Boys division, defeating Austin Nesbitt, 15, of Pilot Butte, SK, on the second playoff hole after both players finished tied for the lead at 150. Olson's opening-round 72 and seven birdies over 36 holes helped him build the lead before holding off Nesbitt's charge. Olson credited ‘my parents and their positivity and support, as well as my golf coach, Kyle McMurphy/RINK Golf Academy,’ and said his mindset down the stretch was to ‘stay positive and have confidence in my abilities to execute shots.’
Competing in the MJT Girls U15 division, Alyxa Melsted, a 13-year-old of Wynyard, SK, improved by eight strokes from round one to round two, following an 88 with an 80 to finish at 168. Melsted made five birdies over the weekend and recognized ‘my mom and my Coach’ for helping prepare her, while sticking to a simple strategy: ‘Play safe and try to hit greens.’
Thirteen-year-old Jun Lee of Regina, SK, posted rounds of 72 and 78 to top the MJT Bantam Boys division with a 150 total. Rather than watching the leaderboard, Lee said, "I wasn't focused on my score, I was just trying to play my game and take each shot one at a time," while thanking his parents, especially his mom, and coach Dean Brown, for their continued support.
In the MJT Peewee Boys division, Hudson Deibert (11) of Regina, SK, put together matching rounds of 74, making seven birdies over the weekend to win with a great score of 148. Deibert thanked ‘my mom and Dad, and my Coach," and kept his strategy straightforward: ‘Just play my game.’
