Strang’s 68-66 marks fitting finish to MJT Fall Classic presented by 365 Golf at windswept Paradise Canyon

It was worth the wait, but it certainly wasn’t easy. Originally scheduled for April before weather forced its postponement, the MJT Fall Classic presented by 365 Golf finally took to Paradise Canyon Golf Resort in Lethbridge, AB, on September 26-27, where Mother Nature once again made her presence felt.

Paradise Canyon’s notoriously windy layout lived up to its reputation, with gusts reaching 60 km/h and cool fall temperatures adding another layer to the challenge for a strong field of golfers aged 19 and under from Alberta and neighbouring provinces. Six division winners emerged from the demanding weekend, earning the final Alberta titles of 2026 along with custom maple leaf crystal trophies and an outstanding selection of prizes.

Presented by 365 Golf, Calgary's premier indoor golf training centre, the Fall Classic brought MJT’s 2026 very successful Alberta season to a fitting close. The tournament ran in tandem with MJT’s Ontario season finale in Toronto, marking the final Junior Tour events of the year in both provinces. The weekend put the finishing touches on a record year for the MJT in Alberta, highlighted by exceptional participation and strength across the provincial schedule, with momentum already building toward 2027 and Early Bird Memberships going on sale in December.

Chase Strang delivered the performance of the weekend at Paradise Canyon, firing exceptional rounds of 68 and 66 to claim the MJT Juvenile Boys title and Boys Low Overall honours at eight-under-par (134). The 16-year-old from Airdrie, who recently signed to play D1 college golf at the University of Idaho, poured in an outstanding 15 birdies over 36 holes, with one of his best shots coming on the second hole: “I struck a shot from 178 to about two feet.” Strang also gave a shoutout to the event extras, adding, “Tee gifts were amazing.”

An eight-stroke final-round improvement propelled Calgary’s Sedona Weitz to the MJT Girls U15 title and Girls Low Overall honours. The 13-year-old followed an opening 83 with a strong 75 to finish at 158, noting that hitting greens in regulation was among her primary goals for the demanding Paradise Canyon layout. Weitz pointed to a key moment on one of the dogleg par-fives, where she ‘struck a dart way close to the pin,’ adding, “It was a turn in my game.”

Matching rounds of 77 carried Calgary’s Cian Thubron to the MJT Junior Boys title with a 154 total. The 17-year-old recorded three birdies and an eagle in challenging weather, while keeping his mindset refreshingly simple: “Have fun.” Thubron gave the tournament equally high marks afterward, adding, “10/10, MJT is awesome.”

Grace Alstad of Beaumont secured the MJT Girls 15–19 title after firing solid rounds of 84 and 83 for a two-day total of 167. The 15-year-old entered the Fall Classic focused on the greens, saying, “My goal was to make two-putts.” Despite the difficult conditions, Alstad had nothing but praise for the weekend, summing up her experience by saying, “Everything was really good.”

Calgary’s Hudson Lien followed an opening 75 with a great final-round 72 to capture the MJT Bantam Boys title at 147. The 15-year-old collected six birdies along the way and credited his mindset with helping him navigate Saturday’s difficult weather. “The strongest part of my game going into this tournament was my mental fortitude, especially in the tough windy conditions,” said Lien, who also enjoyed the depth of the field: “Lots of strong competitors, which is fun.”

Kolton Phillips saved his best for Sunday, improving by eight strokes with a final-round 73 to secure the MJT Peewee Boys title at 154. The 12-year-old Calgary golfer approached the event with a straightforward strategy to ‘just hit greens and two-putt.’ Phillips also praised the Fall Classic afterward, calling it “a very well-organized tournament.”
