Over 130 take part in Ford-sponsored MJT events at Mayfair Lakes; Rao and Hou drive off with low overall titles

Seven months of competition in British Columbia came down to one final weekend, as Canada’s #1-played Junior Golf Tour, the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), welcomed more than 130 youth to Mayfair Lakes Golf Golf and Country Club in Richmond from October 2-4. The weekend showcased junior golf at every stage, with 40 beginners aged six to 12 taking part in Friday’s free Cam Clark Ford Richmond Go Golf! Junior Clinic, followed by a waitlisted field of more than 90 players competing in a two-day high level Ford Series tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

The two-day tournament marked the seventh and final MJT Ford Series event on the 2026 calendar, bringing together athletes aged 19 and under for one last opportunity to win six division titles, custom maple leaf crystal trophies, and adidas Golf shoes before the MJT turns its attention to the season-ending National Championship in Florida. There was also the unique chance for these junior golfers to win a new Ford Bronco with a hole-in-one; several players came close!

From the first event in March through the October finale, the depth of competition, outstanding sportsmanship, and growing support surrounding the Tour made 2026 another remarkable season for the MJT in British Columbia. With the provincial schedule now complete, preparations are already underway for 2027, with Early Bird Memberships opening this December.

A spectacular final-round 66 propelled Vancouver’s Tiffany Rao to the MJT Girls U15 title and Girls Low Overall honours. Rao, 12, opened with a one-under-par 71 before going six-under on day two to finish at 137, with an exceptional 14 birdies across 36 holes. After making double bogey on her opening hole of the final round, Rao quickly responded: “My putt on the 2nd that helped me get a birdie - that really helped since I got a double on the first.” She also saw progress from her previous event, adding, “I improved overall after my last tournament. Especially my putting.”

Chipping in to within three feet of the hole on #18 from a tough lie was the key for 15-year-old Andrew Hou to close with a fantastic score of 69, winning the MJT Juvenile Boys title and Boys Low Overall honours at Mayfair Lakes. “When I hit a bad shot, I just stayed patient,” he said, before rating the event as “Great, the tournament was great.” The Vancouver golfer had followed an opening 72 with his two-under-par 69, pouring in six birdies during just the final round to finish at 141 and end the regular season in impressive fashion.

West Vancouver’s Riley Moore, 17, continued his winning stretch on the MJT, racking up his fifth MJT Junior Boys title after firing solid rounds of 73 and 76 for a 149 total. Moore carded four birdies over the 36-hole event and built enough separation to win by two strokes.

Cassie Chen of Vancouver delivered one of the weekend’s most consistent performances, firing matching, excellent one-under-par rounds of 71 to win the MJT Girls 15-19 title at 142. The 16-year-old collected seven birdies over two days and kept her game plan refreshingly simple: “Don’t hit into the water.” Chen pointed to a clutch putt on the 17th hole as a key moment in closing out the victory.

Back-to-back fantastic rounds of one-under-par 70 saw Daniel Moon of Surrey take home the MJT Bantam Boys title with a 140 total. The 14-year-old made nine birdies over the weekend and credited his play off the tee for helping set the pace. “The strongest part of my game was my driver because I drove very far and straight,” said Moon, who gave his MJT experience an emphatic “1,000,000/10.”

Hayden Soohyun Lee, 12, of Port Moody, once again showed his incredible talent in the MJT Peewee Boys division, winning an impressive 10th title this season with matching one-under-par rounds of 70, his 140 total including eight birdies. His approach was to attack early before settling into the round: “I wanted to make some birdies at the start and then just par out.” Lee identified his second shot on the seventh hole as a turning point, saying it “really helped me get confidence through the round.”

Top finisher scores are noted below. Results from the Bomber Long Drive, PLYR Closest to the Pin, Booster Juice BounceBack Awards and Academy Points can be found here.

As the 2026 MJT Junior Tour season in British Columbia comes to a close, the MJT wishes to thank Ford Canada for its generous support of the season-ending tournament, along with our members, participants, families and sponsors for making 2026 an incredible year. Early Bird Memberships for 2027 will be available in December; more information on the program can be found online at www.maplejt.com.
