From first wins to final medals, Blue Devil delivers storybook end to MJT Mini Tour

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) wrapped up its 2025 Alberta Mini Tour season with the MJT Mini Tour Summer Series at Blue Devil Golf Club in Calgary, AB, on August 13. This was the final Mini Tour event in the province after a record-setting year, underscoring the health of the sport and the rapid growth of junior golf in Canada. Against the backdrop of Blue Devil’s striking fairways and challenging layout, a wait-listed field of talented 12U competitors battled for the final medals of the season, fabulous prizes, and the last ticket to the MJT Mini Tour National Championship at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Course in BC later this month.

Twelve-year-old Sedona Weitz of Foothills M.D., AB, capped off her MJT Mini Tour career in storybook fashion, returning to the same course where she claimed her first Girls 8U title in 2020. Five years later, she closed her chapter with another division win, this time in the MJT Girls 11-12 division with an impressive 5-under par 57, improving her score by an incredible 28 strokes since that first victory. The MJT Boys 9-10 division also saw a standout performance from 10-year-old Rylan Hryhirchuk of Irma, AB, who fired an impressive 5-under-par round.

Not to be outdone, eleven-year-old Wyatt Lazic of Calgary, AB, claimed the MJT Boys 11-12 division title after an intense battle with Carter Martin, 12, of Millet, AB, when both players fired remarkable rounds of 65. Finishing tied at the top, the title was decided on a countback, with Lazic taking the win in style.

Other exceptional rounds resulting in division wins were recorded by Vivian Lee, 10, from Calgary, AB, in MJT Girls 9-10 (69), Jordy Bain, 8, from Edmonton, AB, in MJT Boys 8U (62), and Jagger Nguyen, 7, from Calgary, AB, in MJT Girls 8U (87).

Quotes from the division winners, top finisher scores and the qualified players are detailed below. Full results, as well as winners of the Closest-to-the-Pin competition, are posted on the MJT website here.

As the 2025 MJT Mini Tour season in Alberta comes to a close, we want to thank our members, participants, families, and sponsors for an incredible year. Early Bird Memberships for 2025 will be available in December and more information on the program can be found online at www.maplejt.com.
