Hole-in-one highlights historic 59th annual MJT Harry White Little Masters
The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s number-one played junior tour, added another memorable chapter to its history with the hosting of the 59th annual MJT Harry White Little Masters at Kings Links by the Sea in Delta, BC, on August 11–12. Founded by the late, legendary Harry White, a pioneer in junior golf development, this iconic 36-hole showcase for golfers aged 12 and under continues to honour his enduring legacy.
Over 80 young athletes teed it up across six divisions, competing for titles, premium prizing, and coveted major qualifying spots into the FCG World Championship, Champion of Champions, and MJT Mini Tour National Championship. The MJT is the exclusive qualifying tour in Canada for these exemptions, and the list of qualified players follows below. These qualifying spots and impressive scoring were among the many highlights of the tournament, topped off by a spectacular hole-in-one on the par-3 15th hole in round one by Richmond’s Aaron Wang, age 12, who went on to secure a podium finish in the Boys 11–12 division.
The outstanding scoring recorded out of this large field of talented 12U athletes resulted in division titles going to Bentley Hoogerdyk, 12, of Victoria, BC, in MJT Boys 11-12 (72-71=143), Lucy Li, 11, of Vancouver, BC, in MJT Girls 11-12 (79-75=154), Benjamin Qin, 10, from Vancouver, BC, in MJT Boys 9-10 (69-69=138), Luna Zhou, 10, from Vancouver, BC, in MJT Girls 9-10 (81-69=150), Sawyer Morrow, 6, of Vancouver, BC, in MJT Boys 8U (76-72=148), and Amina Chang, 8, of West Vancouver, BC, in MJT Girls 8U (83-78=161).

Vancouver’s Lucy Li, 11, shot solid scores of 79 and 75 (154) to win the MJT Girls 11-12 Little Masters trophy by two strokes. “It’s great to win and I’m really happy. I had to wake up at 5:30am today, so it’s great to see it pay off,” she said. Her favourite part? “It’s great to see how well this tournament is organized and I love seeing my friends and the MJT staff.”

MJT Boys 9-10 Little Masters winner was Benjamin Qin, 10, from Vancouver, BC, after he put together two flawless rounds of 69 for a 138 total, highlighted by 11 birdies and an eagle. “I feel great when I can finally beat my rival. I thank my coach for helping me with my driver,” he said. His favourite part of the MJT? “That I can play with my friend (Ian Kim) after the round.”

Luna Zhou, age 10 from Vancouver, BC, rebounded from an opening-round 81 with a stellar 69 on day two, finishing at 150 to successfully defend her 2024 MJT Girls 9-10 Little Masters title. “It feels good since I played terrible on the first day and hit 12 strokes better on the second day,” she shared. Her winning mindset? “I was thinking just calm down and you will win, not if you get too happy.”

Six-year-old Sawyer Morrow of Vancouver, BC, improved on his runner-up finish last year, shooting 76 and 72 (148) to claim the win in MJT Boys 8U. “(it is) exciting,” he said simply, and when asked what he was thinking down the stretch, added, “(I was) hoping to hit good drives.”

Amina Chang, 8, of West Vancouver, BC, fired rounds of 83 and 78 (161) to in the MJT Girls 8U Little Masters trophy in her second MJT outing. “It feels very nice,” she said, adding that the most enjoyable part of the MJT is, “I get to learn a lot about my golf swing and make a lot of new friends.”
