Playoff and close finishes highlight successful MJT Mini Tour at Guildford stop
A great field of British Columbia’s top 12U golfers teed it up on July 7 at Guildford Golf Club in Surrey, BC, as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s most competitive circuit, continued its 2025 Mini Tour season. With five division titles on the line along with qualifying spots into the MJT Mini Tour National Championship in BC and the Champion of Champions Junior Golf World Championship in the UK, the stakes were high and the talent on full display.
Ten-year-old Johnny Wang of Vancouver, BC, emerged victorious in a MJT Boys 9–10 division playoff after a thrilling battle that saw both he and nine-year-old George Du of Richmond, BC, fire impressive three-under-par rounds of 69 to tie for the lead. Wang sealed the deal with a playoff win to claim the division title.
Great scoring in the other divisions led to wins by Hayden Soohyun Lee, 11, of Port Moody, BC, in MJT Boys 11-12 (74), Chloe Lam, 11, of Vancouver, BC, in MJT Girls 11-12 (75), Lorena Wang, 9, from Surrey, BC, in MJT Girls 9-10 (81), and Mason Huang, 8, from Delta, BC, in MJT Boys 8U (78).

Port Moody’s Hayden Soohyun Lee, age 11, clinched another MJT Mini Tour title with a one-stroke victory in a tightly contested MJT Boys 11–12 division at Guildford. “It feels great because I won back-to-back MJT Mini Tour tournaments and I shot even the last 16 holes,” he shared. When asked about his favourite part of the tour, he added, “I love competing with friends and sinking putts to tell others.”

In the MJT Girls 11–12 division, 11-year-old Chloe Lam of Vancouver, BC, edged out the win by a single shot after birdieing her final two holes. “It feels great because I worked very hard before this tournament and my hard work paid off! I am also proud of myself because I birdied the last two2 holes,” she said. When asked what she enjoys most about the tour, she responded, “I like the pizza and how organized it is,” giving a nod to valued MJT partner, Panago Pizza.

In an electrifying finish, Vancouver’s Johnny Wang, 10, emerged victorious in the MJT Boys 9–10 division following a single-hole playoff against George Du, 9, of Richmond, after both players shot brilliant rounds of 69, three-under-par. “It feels good,” said Wang. “I was thinking about getting par first and then birdie,” he added about his mindset down the stretch.

Nine-year-old Lorena Wang of Surrey, BC, secured the MJT Girls 9–10 division title with a solid round of 81. “I feel very happy,” she said. On her final stretch, she shared, “I was thinking about winning first place.”
