Stellar scores take spotlight as MJT Mini Tour rolls through Newlands

A field of 70 young golfers brought the energy to Newlands Golf & Country Club in Langley, BC, on June 30, for the latest stop on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s leading competitive junior stage. Known for its tree-lined fairways, Newlands provided the perfect summer setting for a full slate of 12U athletes to battle for division titles and qualifying spots into the MJT Mini Tour National Championship at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Course later this season.

A thrilling three-way showdown shook-up the MJT Girls 11–12 division, where 11-year-olds Victoria Shen of Surrey, Chloe Lam of Vancouver, and Miranda Luo of Vancouver all fired impressive rounds of 75. Shen emerged victorious in the countback, clinching the title in dramatic fashion.

Additional division titles were awarded due to strong gameplay and notable performances by Hayden Soohyun Lee, 11, of Port Moody, BC, in MJT Boys 11-12 (73), Allen Kong, 9, from Vancouver, BC, in MJT Boys 9-10 (70), Stella Sun, 10, from White Rock, BC, in MJT Girls 9-10 (71), Sawyer Morrow, 6, from Vancouver, BC, in MJT Boys 8U (77), and Paris Liu, 8, from Richmond, BC, in MJT Girls 8U (74).

Quotes from the division winners and top finisher scores are detailed below. Full results, as well as winners of the Closest-to-the-Pin competition are posted on the MJT website here.
