Deadlocked at the top in MJT Mini Tour Junior Worlds Qualifier in Tsawwassen
A field of 90 rising stars, aged 6 to 12, were booked to tee off at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Course in Tsawwassen, BC, on April 12, for the MJT Mini Tour’s Junior Worlds Qualifier on Canada’s #1 Junior Golf Tour, the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT). Major qualifying spots were up for grabs. Division winners secured spots in the MJT Mini Tour National Championship, also set to take place in Tsawwassen later this season, and the Boys and Girls 8U and 9-10 champions qualified for the highly anticipated Uswing Mojing Junior World Golf Championship in San Diego, California, this July.
In addition, top finishers in each division who have not already qualified punched their tickets to the MJT Mini Tour Order of Merit Invitational, coming up May 24 at Quilchena Golf and Country Club in Richmond, BC — a high-stakes event showcasing some of the brightest young talent in Canadian junior golf.
Competing in six age divisions, the young athletes faced challenging winds and tough pin placements that tested every part of their game. One of the most exciting storylines came in the MJT Boys 9-10 Division, where Zhongjun Daniel Qi of Surrey, BC, and Raymond Wang of Bothell, WA, both 10, finished tied at 69. After remaining deadlocked through three playoff holes, the pair were both declared winners in a thrilling and hard-fought finish.
Other strong performances led to division wins for Minxing Matt Li, 12, of Surrey, BC, in MJT Boys 11-12 (71), Avery McAbee, 12, from Mission, BC, in MJT Girls 11-12 (74), Grace Yuemeng Wu, 9, from Richmond, BC, in MJT Girls 9-10 (72), Sawyer Morrow, 6, of Vancouver, BC, in MJT Boys 8U (81), and Yoyo Zhang in a countback over Chloe He, both aged 8 and from Richmond, BC, in the MJT Girls 8U (75).
Quotes from the division winners, top finisher scores and the list of qualified players are detailed below. Full results, as well as winners of the Closest-to-the-Pin and Long Drive competitions, are posted on the MJT website

The next MJT Mini Tour event in the province is the waitlisted MJT Mini Tour at Musqueam Golf Course in Vancouver, BC, on June 7. For more information, or to view upcoming British Columbia MJT Mini Tour schedule, please visit
