International spots and early season momentum highlight MJT Manitoba opener
The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s number one-played junior golf tour and the dominant force in Canadian junior golf for 27 years, officially launched its 2025 season in Manitoba with the MJT Junior Worlds Qualifier at Kildonan Park Golf Course in Winnipeg on May 3rd and 4th. Under sunny skies and ideal spring conditions, a sizeable and talented field of juniors aged 9 to 18 teed it up for a shot at division titles and international recognition.
With spots on the line for four National and International events — the FCG World Championship, Uswing Mojing Junior World Golf Championship, MJT East Coast Junior Championship, and the MJT National Tour Challenge — players brought their best games to the course in pursuit of early-season momentum and global opportunity.
Low Overall Honours for boys and girls respectively were won by Payne Wood, 18, from Winnipeg, MB, in MJT Junior Boys (64-73=137) and Camryn Thomas, 14, of Winnipeg, MB, in MJT Girls 15-19 (77-82=159).
Other outstanding performances led to division wins for Hunter Oakden, 14, of Brandon, MB, in MJT Juvenile Boys (141), Angelina Sitarz, 12, of Winnipeg, MB, in MJT Girls U15 (185), Ryder St.Laurent, 14, Île Des Chênes, MB, in MJT Bantam Boys (145), Ty Montour, 11, of Oakville, MB, in MJT Peewee Boys (157).

Winnipeg’s Payne Wood made a statement in round one of the MJT Junior Boys division, firing an impressive 64 to jump out to an early lead. The 18-year-old backed it up with a 73 in round two to finish at 137, securing the title by one stroke. With eight birdies and an eagle across the weekend, Wood’s opening round laid the foundation for a wire-to-wire win

Fourteen-year-old Camryn Thomas of Winnipeg, MB, claimed the MJT Girls 15–19 title with rounds of 77 and 82 for a 159 total. Thomas showed confidence throughout the weekend, rolling in five birdies for a confident victory.

Hunter Oakden, 14, of Brandon, MB, continued his strong form from last season with rounds of 69 and 72 (141) to win the MJT Juvenile Boys title. The 2024 Saskatchewan Order of Merit winner tallied nine birdies over two rounds and brought the right mindset into the event, saying his goal was to ‘have fun with my group and shoot some low scores.’

Angelina Sitarz of Winnipeg, MB, earned the MJT Girls U15 division title with rounds of 94 and 91 for a 185 total. The 12-year-old stayed steady over two rounds to secure the win and kick off her MJT season on a high note.

Ryder St. Laurent of Île Des Chênes, MB, captured the MJT Bantam Boys division title with rounds of 70 and 75 (145) for a three-stroke victory. The 14-year-old showed composure over the two days, carding six birdies and securing a solid win.

Ty Montour of Oakville, MB, opened his season with a strong showing in the MJT Peewee Boys division, firing rounds of 81 and 76 (157) to take the title. The 2024 MJT Order of Merit division winner rolled in three birdies and credited his off-season prep time spent on his simulator at home. “The event was really fun, a 10/10,” he shared, after his successful weekend on tour.
