Dual BC Amateur and Junior Champion fires 14-under in elite field at 18th annual MJT Odlum Brown Classic; LePrieur qualifies for Dubai

Canada’s leading junior golf tour, the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), held the 18th annual MJT Odlum Brown Classic, another Elite Series event, at Hazelmere Golf and Tennis Club in Surrey, BC, over August 5–7. A waitlisted field of over 100 athletes from two Canadian provinces, Florida, and China, competed in six divisions at this WAGR-ranked tournament, for division titles, exceptional prizing, and bonus Order of Merit points to determine qualification for the 27th annual MJT National Championship presented by adidas Golf in Florida this November. After 36 holes of play in challenging wet conditions, the field was cut, with only the top performers advancing to the final round of the 54-hole showdown.

Proudly supported by Odlum Brown, a long-time advocate for junior golf, the competition carried extra stakes as players also chased a qualifying spot into the prestigious 2026 Junior Dubai Desert Classic. This direct exemption for boys aged 17 and under was won by MJT veteran, Ryan LePrieur, 16, from Langley, BC, who took the MJT Odlum Brown Juvenile Boys Champion’s title after firing rounds of 69-75-75 (219).

A brilliant 54-hole performance led to an impressive tournament victory by the reigning BC Amateur and Junior Boys Champion, Austin Krahn, 18, of Christina Lake, BC, who fired three red-hot rounds of 68, 67, 67 (202) to claim the MJT Odlum Brown Junior Boys Champion’s title and Boys Low Overall Honours at 14-under par.

Continued scoring excellence across the divisions led to Esther Cheon, 16, from Langley, BC, winning the MJT Odlum Brown Girls 15-19 Champion’s title and Low Overall Girl Honours (74-73-75=222), Olivia (Jing yuan) Li, 11, of Richmond, BC, becoming the MJT Odlum Brown Girls 15U Champion (83-77-75=235), and Tiger Zhao, 14, of Vancouver, BC, crowned MJT Odlum Brown Bantam Boys Champion (73-75-69=217). More under-par magic in MJT Peewee Boys was recorded by Minxing Matt Li, 12, of Surrey, BC, who shot 70, 69, 73 (212) to win his division’s Champion’s title at 4-under.

The next Junior Tour stop in the province is the MJT Ford Series at Chilliwack Golf and Country Club in Chilliwack, taking place September 27-28. For more information on the MJT and upcoming events, visit www.maplejt.com.
