Fantastic 11-under-par from Gadalla headlines MJT’s packed PLYR Series at GreenTee
The record-breaking 2025 season on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s most-played junior golf tour, continued with the MJT PLYR Series at GreenTee Country Club in Langley, BC, on May 10-11, with new milestones set by members. This full field event marked the first of six national tournaments in the MJT’s PLYR Series in 2025, presented in partnership with PLYR Golf, a valued MJT partner and proud supporter of junior golf in Canada.
The full field of talented junior golfers, including competitors from across British Columbia, Alberta, and Taiwan, who received fantastic gifting by PLYR Golf, were in pursuit of six division titles, PLYR prizing, and qualifying spots in two major events: the East Coast Junior Championship and the MJT National Tour Challenge.
Exceptional scores of 68-65 for an 11-under-par total of 133, his career low tournament scores, were fired by Troy Gadalla, 16, of Vancouver, BC, in the MJT Juvenile division, vaulting him to Low Overall Honours for Boys, while among the Girls, Cynthia (Kexin) Zhang, 16, also of Vancouver, fired excellent rounds of 73-70 (143) to take Low Overall and top the MJT Girls 15-19 division. Other standout performances leading to division wins were recorded by Soohan Park, 17, of Langley, BC, in MJT Junior Boys (72-70=142), Hsi Huai Lin, 13, of New Taipei, Taiwan, in MJT Girls U15 (75-72=147), Tiger Yuanjun Liu, 14, from Surrey, BC, in MJT Bantam Boys (72-71=143), and Minxing Matt Li, 12, from Surrey, BC, in MJT Peewee Boys (72-71=143).

Soohan Park, 17, of Langley, BC, put together two sharp rounds in the MJT PLYR Series stop at GreenTee, shooting even-par 72 followed by a 2-under 70 for a 142 total to take the MJT Junior Boys division title. With seven birdies and one eagle on the card, Park’s all-around game was on full display. “I filled some holes in my game during my off-season, and it paid off,” he said — and with numbers like that, it’s hard to argue.

Cynthia (Kexin) Zhang, 16, of Vancouver, BC, delivered a composed and consistent performance, carding excellent rounds of 73 and 70 for a 143 total to win the MJT Girls 15-19 division. With six birdies over two rounds, Zhang combined technical skill with mental toughness. “To prepare for this season, I took time outside at school to practice and competed with friends in small contests to sharpen my mental game,” she shared. “I stayed motivated in the off-season by looking forward to the tournaments coming up.” Her strong start shows she’s more than ready.

Sixteen-year-old Troy Gadalla of Vancouver, BC, lit up the leaderboard with exceptional rounds of 68 and 65 (133 total), crushing the MJT Juvenile Boys title with his career low tournament scores. With 11 birdies across two days and precision around the greens, Gadalla’s hard work in the off-season clearly paid off. “I spent a lot of time working on my short game this off-season because it was a weak point for me last year,” he said. “I stayed motivated by thinking of college golf and how important this year is.” As for the event rating? “10/10, very fun.”

Representing New Taipei, Taiwan, Hsi Huai Lin put together an impressive performance to hold off a very competitive field in MJT Girls U15 at the MJT PLYR Series at GreenTee, posting rounds of 75 and 72 for a 147 total to capture the title. The 13-year-old stayed steady across both days, carding three birdies and holding off three players who tied for second place. “I think the prizes at MJT are very plentiful and the pizza is delicious,” she stated. “I think it’s better than some other tours for junior golf.” A win — and a slice — well earned!

Surrey, BC’s Tiger Yuanjun Liu, 14, brought both focus and flair, shooting consistent rounds of 72 and 71 for a 143 total to take the MJT Bantam Boys title. With six birdies across two days, Liu proved consistency was key in a strong field. His prep? “I played Fort with the boys,” he joked. As for the event? “10/10, everyone was really chill” — just like his game.
MJT Peewee Boys: GreenTee CC: Par 72, Ydg 5458, Slope/Rating 108/65.5

Minxing Matt Li , 12, also from Surrey, BC, posted an impressive performance, going par in round one and following it up with a one-under 71 to finish at 143, securing a narrow one-stroke victory in the MJT Peewee Boys division. The 12-year-old racked up nine birdies across two rounds. “I prepared for this season in many ways — getting a membership at Hazelmere helped a lot because it allowed me to go to the course more,” said Li. And clearly, the extra prep. paid off.
