MJT Mini Tour Atlantic Canada season enjoys fine finale at Fredericton Golf Club
Under beautiful blue skies, the non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) wrapped up its 2024 Atlantic Canada Mini Tour season for 12U golfers with a newly added event to the schedule, held at Fredericton Golf Club in Fredericton, NB, on August 24. The tournament was a late addition in order to give the young players one more chance to compete this season, with medals and prizes in six divisions up for grabs, and they made the most of their final opportunity to shine.
Great scoring led to division titles won by Drew Marchand, 11, of Upper Tantallon, NS, in MJT Boys 11-12 (84), Brooke Shepard, 12, of Fredericton, NB, in MJT Girls 11-12 (107), Cian O’Brien, 10, from Rothesay, NB, in MJT Boys 9-10 (77), Sophie Landry, 10, from Dieppe, NB, in MJT Girls 9-10 (116), Jameson Whitehead, 7, of Halifax, NS, in MJT Boys 8U (84), and Ariyah Sock, 8, from Elsipogtog First Nation, NB, in MJT Girls 8U (106).

Twelve-year-old Brooke Shepard from Fredericton, NB, was a one-girl show in her division, but that didn't stop her from bringing her A-game. "I practiced by playing 18 holes and tried to keep a good mindset in the days before," she shared. To stay loose, Shepard had a unique strategy: "I listen to music and just laugh it off."

Jameson Whitehead, just 7 years old from Halifax, NS, showed off his hard work thanks to ‘lots of practice with my coach, Moritz Wittmann from Ashburn.’ His enthusiasm was clear as, when rating the tournament, he declared, "10/10! Love to compete and love the prizes!"

Ten-year-old Cian O'Brien from Rothesay, NB, shined under the Atlantic skies, crediting his win to a warm-up at his home course and ‘a good night's sleep.’ Beaming with pride, Cian is confident this victory will fuel his future improvement. "10/10, it was so much fun!" he exclaimed, capturing the day's excitement.

Drew Marchand, 11, from Upper Tantallon, NS, is all about preparation and fun. "I go to every tournament one hour early so I can practice every single club," he shared about his strategy. But it's not just about the game—Marchand loves the social aspect too. "They (the tournaments) are so fun, and I make a lot of friends."
About the MJT: The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour is Canada’s #1 Junior Golf Tour as well as the only national junior tour run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the ‘Road to College Golf’ in Canada. The organization is supported by partners across various tiers, including Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels.
