Playoff par secures victory at MJT Atlantic Canada Series at Kingswood Resort
The Atlantic Canada circuit of the non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s #1 Junior Tour, stormed Kingswood Resort on August 3-4, 2024, transforming the picturesque Fredericton, NB course into a battleground for nearly 80 junior golfers. Competing in two events—the MJT Mini Tour for 12U and the Junior Tour for 19U—these young athletes showcased their skills amidst masterfully bunkered terrain and wide-open fairways. Highlighted below are the thrilling results and standout details from the 19U Junior Tour, where the future stars of golf gave it their all.
Players competed in five divisions with eligible age groups having the chance to qualify for the Champion of Champions 2025 at Lough Erne Resort in Ross Inner, Enniskillen, United Kingdom in July 2025.
An event highlight came in the way of a nail-biting finish where Jack Grinton, 13, from Brookfield, NS, and Carter Lavigne, 14, from Moncton, NB, tied at 150. The suspense peaked on the first extra hole, where Grinton clinched victory with a par, claiming the MJT Bantam Boys division title.
Low overall honours for Boys and Girls respectively went to Brady Ahern, 16, of Riverview, NB, in MJT Juvenile Boys (76, 72=148) and Lila Bishop, 12, of Port Williams, NS, in MJT Girls U15 (80, 75=155). Following their respective wins, both Ahern and Bishop have qualified for the 2025 Champion of Champions. Other leading performances resulting in division wins were recorded by Zachary Gaudet, 17, of Truro, NS, in MJT Junior Boys (149) and Ried Hart, 16, of O’Leary, PE, in MJT Girls 15-19 (160).

Zachary Gaudet, 17, from Truro, NS, lit up the course with eight birdies and an eagle, carding a one-under par for round two. "I made sure to practice the bad parts of my game," Gaudet quipped, showing that even the winners have room for improvement. "I just focused on my game and tried to hit greens," he added.

Sixteen-year-old Braden Ahern from Riverview, NB, has cracked the code to golfing greatness by putting his skill aside and focusing on his mentality. "In no time, I saw improvement in my score, playing the best golf of my life. I brought that momentum with me and took it home!" he exclaimed. Ahern's strategy paid off big time, as he celebrated his third MJT tournament win of the year. "This means a lot to me because I love playing on the MJT. Winning my 3rd tournament this year feels surreal."

In a dramatic showdown, Jack Grinton, 13, from Brookfield, NS, and Carter Lavigne, 14, from Moncton, NB, both finished at 150 after two thrilling rounds, setting the stage for an electrifying playoff. With nerves of steel, Grinton parred the first extra hole to clinch the MJT Bantam Boys division title. “I practiced a lot coming into this event in my backyard and on the course,” Grinton revealed. “10/10, the course was in fantastic shape, and I won” he added, clearly ecstatic about his victory.

Reid Hart, 16, from O'Leary, PE, proved that staying cool under pressure is the secret to success. "I use breathing techniques to stay calm and know that patience is key. It is never over until the ball goes in the hole on 18," she said. Hart's hard work paid off, and her victory was well-earned. "It means a lot to me because I've worked really hard for this win," she added

Lila Bishop, a 12-year-old from Port Williams, NS, has broken her streak of second place finishes with a spectacular performance, racking up 4 birdies and an eagle. "Mentally, I tried to play it one shot at a time," she explained, showcasing her focus. "Physically, I worked on my putting a lot," she added, revealing the key to her triumph. After so many near-misses, Bishop’s persistence has paid off!
