Two Tiger’s playoff in prestigious MJT Odlum Brown Classic where six Champions crowned

The thrilling three-day, major-ranked MJT Odlum Brown Classic swung into action in British Columbia from July 30 to August 1, an annual highlight on the circuit of Canada’s leading junior golf tour, the non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour. An elite field of 108 junior golfers from three provinces and three countries—Canada, the USA, and Qatar—teed off at the renowned Northview Golf and Country Club in Surrey for the first two rounds before a cut to 60% of the field for the final round on Kings Links by the Sea in Delta, BC, where players were treated to breathtaking views of the Coast Mountains as they navigated the scenic seaside course.

In a thrilling display of skill and determination, athletes competed across six divisions at the WAGR-ranked event to win coveted MJT golf bags, distinguished medals, and bragging rights. Players also vied for crucial MJT Order of Merit points, significantly impacting their standings for qualification into the MJT National Championship presented by adidas Golf at Orange Lake Golf Resort in Florida this November.

A thrilling playoff ensued in the MJT Bantam Boys division between Tiger Xie and Tiger Yuanjun Liu, both 13-year-olds from Surrey, BC, who tied at 210 after three intense rounds. In a battle befitting their fierce namesakes, Xie clinched victory on the second extra hole with a stunning birdie, securing the MJT Odlum Brown Bantam Boys Champion’s title.

After brilliant performances, the low overall MJT Odlum Brown Classic Champion titles for Boys and Girls respectively were won by Oakley Mayner, 17, from Kelowna, BC, in MJT Junior Boys (71, 69, 71=211) and Cici Pou Ieng Liang, 14, from Richmond, BC, in MJT Girls 15-19 (70, 70, 76=216).
