MJT Future Stars shine at Northern Bear; Fisher punches ticket to PGA TOUR Canada’s ATB Classic

Canada’s number one-played junior tour, the non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), partnered with Alberta Treasury Branch (ATB) to host an elite junior golf tournament at Northern Bear Golf Club in Sherwood Park, AB, on June 23-24, 2023, leading into the PGA TOUR Canada tournament week at the same facility.

The MJT Future Stars Invitational presented by ATB saw 18 top juniors in Canada qualify to participate in a 36-hole stroke-play event under PGA TOUR Canada conditions, with the whole professional tour experience, and the chance to win an exemption into the ATB Classic on the PGA TOUR Canada's schedule from June 29 – July 2, 2023.

Kye Fisher, 18, of Leduc, AB, won the MJT Future Stars Invitational after firing 68-76 (144) and, as the low qualifier, will be making his PGA TOUR Canada debut this coming week.  For his win, Fisher will receive financial support for expenses courtesy of the MJT and ATB.

“I am super happy to have played well over the past two days,” said Fisher.  “I was thrilled to see a couple crucial putts in the last few holes drop.  I can’t thank the Maple Leaf Junior Tour enough for this opportunity and am definitely looking forward to my first PGA TOUR Canada event.”

Runner-up was Christian Flick of Heritage Pointe, AB, who, along with Fisher, receives an exemption into the season-ending MJT National Championship presented by TaylorMade and adidas Golf at The Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona, this November.

“What an amazing weekend at Northern Bear,” said Trent Matson, MJT National Operations Director. “We are very grateful to partner with ATB on this experience for MJT members.  Many will go on to play in college and then look to play professionally, and this is the first step.”
